Do you fast forward through the theme song?

TOS first season wasn't bad, I can take that. But I fast forward through the second and third because that lady screaming at the end is like nails on a chalk board.

TNG I just flat cannot stand to hear anymore. I think it was a good choice at the time, such a large undertaking as re-doing an iconic show for a new generation needed a very bold theme. It worked, but man am I over it. Fast forward every time.

DS9 and VOY are in the same category for me. They are mellow and soothing, and the visuals are pleasing. I'll watch them if I'm not in a hurry.

ENT? Oh boy. What can I say? It's not a bad song, but it is not a fitting theme. At all. I fast forward as my own little way to protest.

How about you?

I loved all the TOS variations (there are a couple on Season 1, aren't there?) from the original runs, but I DON'T like the remastered themes tunes for Seasons 2&3. It just seems that the balance of the soprano singer is out of whack with what the original version had, too prominent over the main melody now. Haven't watched them though on a Sky/DVR box or on DVD, so I can't fast forward!

Still like the TNG themes, but I tend to like all the movie sounds tracks, so Jerry Goldsmith's theme still holds sway with me. I wouldn't fast forward thru them on DVD (the only Trek I have on DVD are movies I-VIII, Nemesis, Star Trek 2009 and Into Darkness, plus Season 1 of DS9, and in the UK, the price of series Trek on DVD hardly seems to be on discount!).

Love the two variations of DS9, but the Voyager theme with the drum beat as Voyager flies toward the star always sounds like it's about to go into the "Police Aacdemy" theme!

The less said about the "Enterprise" theme, the better. The mute button is used on rewatches in lieu of the fast forward button!

I will usually fast-forward through the themes of TOS, DS9 and VOY. The first 2 seasons of TNG I always make it a point to play the themes for, because whether it was by accident, or design, the Solar System planets are floating in a most peculiar way and it gives the Intro a very unique look and feel, which I quite enjoy. Sir Patrick Stewart's reading of "Space ... the Final Frontier" is another reason. I will usually let that play for ALL seasons, then fast forward the music, where applicable.

The ENT theme song is "OK," I guess, but the only reason I'll let it play out is because of when they show American Astronaut Alan Shepard. He's the one they show, suited up, when the lyrics kick in with, "... going where the heart will take me." He's got this expression as if to say, "it doesn't get any better than this," with a half nod to it. I don't know why, I just dig the fact that this is him preparing to go to the Moon. The MOON ... that's where "the heart" took him the day that was shot ... how cool is that?

Yes I do. Having gotten that out of the way, I have to say I've never really understood the animus displayed toward Faith of the Heart. In a general sense, I can appreciate the disappointment in its total negation of the sweep and majesty of the other themes, but honestly I see that as simply a function of people having gotten habituated to that model, perhaps in some cases equating it to a Trek ethos of discovery and wonder, but not really giving any serious thought as to why that model just doesn't fit this particular show. I think it's exactly right for the place in history we are observing. A human culture much closer to our own, save having weathered a very costly world war. I actually find that the music and lyrics very fittingly portray a society that has scratched and clawed its way to this point in time. In fact, I find it a poignant and moving salute to those that had come before, incrementally leading humanity and its quest for an understanding of the heavens on its way. I rate it more highly than TNG and possibly DS9 as well. although the latter is a bold and memorable composition. I definitely would say that I prefer it strictly as a musical work to TOS, but one must give props to the latter as the first and what so many people would come instinctively to identify Trek with, over so many years.

I generally sit through the themes. More so for DS9 and Voyager, which I felt have a bit of presence and atmosphere. Jerry Goldsmith's classic theme is fantastic, although I find most tv TNG versions a little flat compared to the full TMP score. I love the TOS theme, but yeah that later season versions I will often wander off to take a leak while they are schrieking away. And Enterprise? Honestly it's like a train wreck I can't stop myself from watching.

I always watch the TOS opening because I'm certain at some point the ship is going to come crashing through my screen and then Spock is going to ask for a hit.

I skip through the ones on TOS and TNG. No real reason. The themes for DS9 and Voyager seem to capture the essential essence of the shows. I really like both of them. I don't watch Enterprise.

I generally let them play through, although Mrs. Silvercrest will skip through them if she has the remote.

These days I look closer at the astronomical inconsistencies in the VOY opening sequence. And I always get a chuckle from the CGI screw-up (Saturn) in the TNG opening credits.

I have two very young children who stop anything they might be doing to watch the entirety of Enterprise's theme, so I'm kinda obligated.

Oh yes! It's TERRIBLE how her voice overpowers everything; it becomes the theme, where before it was a haunting counterpoint/background. Just one more reason to not like the remastered versions.

I still like the TNG theme--I like it's unabashed triumphalism. I do love the Voyager theme, it is, as another poster put, mellow but also a little haunting. I don't watch Ent either and I feel the DS9 theme is forgettable. TOS is TOS and so etched into my brain that I never choose to skip it. Hell it's on my mp3!

I listen to all of them. Even the Enterprise themes, even if they're not very Trek... That said, I love the ENT MU theme. Too bad we only heard it for two episodes...

I've never fast-forwarded through the themes (or made a final bathroom trip or trip to the fridge during them when watching in real time). Loved the Trek TV Themes. All of them. As @Drone said, even "Faith of the Heart" made a certain amount of sense in context. (I've always wondered if some of the hate for the song was that it was appropriated from a movie and not written specifically for ENT.)
The only problem I have is I sometimes catch myself singing the lyrics to the TOS theme. I can't hear the TOS theme without thinking of those damn lyrics. (It was also very cool to finally hear the TOS theme in a theater in ST09 and STID, but still, as it plays, I'm thinking, "... love, strange love a star-woman teaches," and at the end, "... remember, remember me.")

OMG! You have them memorized? :wtf:

It's a curse that's stayed with me. I can't exercise it from my memory. They were there. On the page after the dedication and before the table of contents in my 1968 copy of The Making of Star Trek. The lyrics. I read them. They stuck. I'll regret that day for the rest of my life. I can only say to anyone else, save yourselves. Avoid the lyrics at all costs.

If I'm in the mood for a marathon of episodes, i usually watch the theme for the first episode and skip it for the rest. Tho I'm not to keen on the Voyager theme so I tend to skip it more than the theme music for the other shows.
