I'd prefer an Afgan play an Afgan character.
If we can get Robert Downey Jr. to do some Trek stuff he can play any race he wants. But I think he is the only one in Hollywood who can pull it off.
That's not what acting is about. "Acting" means playing people different from you in some respects otherwise it's called a documentary.
Plus who do you propose should play imaginary races? Like people from the Atlantid that we don't even know if it existed?
It means playing people who arent you. Like a Starfleet Captain or a consulting detective. Or a 19th Century Calvery officer or a doctor in a busy urban hospital.
Let's make it simple because we're beating around the bush here:

I vote for Vince Vaughn as next captain of Discovery. That would totally kick ass, the guy has huge range from comedy to drama. He was the best thing about second season of True Detective. He could totally pull of being a captain.
