Same here. Don't care if it is Star Trek or not. It will eventually find its place amongst the larger continuity, perhaps not perfectly, and that's ok.Whereas I'm watching it because it's Discovery.

And there's also the recreation room from TAS...Even ENT had holographic targets that Malcolm would shoot at in the armory. They were crude holograms to be sure but they were projected into the air and displayed dynamic motion, so the idea that 100 years later there'd be slightly more sophisticated tactical simulator rooms on some starships and at other facilities makes at least some sense from a technological evolution standpoint. If we're going to lambaste DSC for a primitive holodeck then we need to first take our grievances to Rick Berman and Brannon Braga for introducing tactical holograms into the Star Trek universe more than 200 years before TNG.
I can live with them for the most part. ENT played with that tech years ago so that horse escaped from the barn long ago.
See? The idea is already writing itself.Vash's return?

We don't talk about that...it undermines arguments against Discovery. And there's also the recreation room from TAS...
That's too reasonable. How do we know there wasn't a hologram thing on the Enterprise and we just never saw it?
From VOY: "Flashback"How do we know there wasn't a hologram thing on the Enterprise and we just never saw it?
So holodecks=holograms?From VOY: "Flashback"
JANEWAY: It was a very different time, Mister Kim. Captain Sulu, Captain Kirk, Dr. McCoy. They all belonged to a different breed of Starfleet officer. Imagine the era they lived in. The Alpha Quadrant still largely unexplored. Humanity on verge of war with Klingons. Romulans hiding behind every nebula. Even the technology we take for granted was still in its early stages. No plasma weapons, no multiphasic shields. Their ships were half as fast.
KIM: No replicators, no holodecks. You know, ever since I took Starfleet history at the academy, I always wondered what it would be like to live in those days.

DSC included Robert April in their list of Biggest Fanwank References, so to that extent, they acknowledge information from TAS.Have the DISCO writers/producers said whether they consider TAS canon? I'm pretty sure the Voyager guys didn't, but the DS9 people snuck in a couple of references.
We all know continuity is perfect.Interesting how that never gets cited as a reference when condemning Discovery for being 'too dark'. Mostly because TOS contradicted it the following week, but then that's the inviolable continuity of Star Trek.
We'll probably see one next season and everyone will panicHow do we know there wasn't a hologram thing on the Enterprise and we just never saw it?
You will notice that Janeway says "Even the technology we take for granted was still in its early stages" and then proceeds to name a bunch of stuff that TOS didn't have, like Plasma weapons. As we all know (and I totally didn't have to look this up...) Enterprise NX-01 was also equipped with plasma weapons. Now, we could declare Enterprise non-canon or we could combine that statement with the previous one, with how technology was "in its early stages". And this particular statement fits perfectly with what Kim says. They didn't have replicators but food slots, which is similar but not totally there yet. And they also had holographic locations, but you couldn't use it for an all-immersive experience with story and shit, you could just do your training and shoot holoKlingons, which is a vastly different thing. From VOY: "Flashback"
