The writers and producers of Discovery have said this will all line-up.
As has been said MANY MANY MANY TIMES... they were almost certainly referring to the Spore Drive, the Klingon War, and Burnham's place in Sarek's family. The Klingon War has been resolved, and the resolution of the Spore Drive is kind of a no-brainer considering all the weird shit that keeps happening because of it. And I suspect the Sarek family drama is about to be settled (partially) by the end of the season premier.

What did YOU think they were talking about? The Red Alert lights?

Shouldn't the quality of the show be the prime determining factor in how invested one gets in a show?

In theory, but I’m very fussy about what I’m prepared to watch. I’m already thirty years in to Trek viewer loyalty.

No, not really, at least, it never has been for me.

Characters are what drives me to a show.

It won't, at least not the way you want it to. The producers idea of lining up will not be yours.
Here's the thing. This argument is now very circular, to the point that we might be stuck in a temporal loop.

If you don't consider Discovery Prime, and that it is a reboot, then why does it matter what the production team states? It's self-fulfilling in that regard. The "Whys" of it not being Prime don't even matter. It just isn't Prime. End of story, apparently. even though this thread is now on its 115th page by my reckoning.

Because I and others been belittled over and over when we say we just treat it as a reboot. "The producers say..." is the first thing that gets posted.

Yes. It's clear that this particular opinion is not really allowed.

Personally I was able to enjoy the show just fine by pretending it wasn't really Star Trek. Until the last couple of eps when common sense just flew out the airlock. Still glad I watched it but boy, does it have some issues.

And the only way they will ever be inspired is if Discovery is in the Prime universe?
It is according the people making the show. We don't get to make that decision, they do. Pretending otherwise is just wishful thinking and fanwank.

You can call it whatever you like, doesn't change the word of the people who make it. If they say it's the Prime universe, then it is. Just like they decide what is and isn't canon. Have you're own head canon if you need to cope, but it doesn't change facts. As in actual production facts, not "facts" like the size of the Enterprise.

If they decide to make it another timeline, just it will be. Inventing conspiracy theories and freaking out over a fictional timeline being wrong is a waste of time.

This is just getting sad now.
Some schools in the US teach Creationism as fact. It's "official" to them. Does that make it true?
Like what you're doing right now? Do you think because YOU think it, that makes it official?
This is what I mean by belittled. Obviously, if we don't follow whatever CBS says, we're the equivalent of flat-earthers. It is a shame really.
Well you are ignoring information from the official source in favor of fan theory. I'm not going to pretend it's anything more than a disproven theory on TV Tropes's WMG page.

The point is that creator intent isn't holy writ. Especially when none of these creators were involved in the original and when the tone and style of what they've created deliberately doesn't fit with the original.

In the grand scheme of things, some Trekkies considering the newest series to be a reboot isn't the worst thing in the world.

I guess Trump is right since he is the official leader of the US. We should follow him without question!

Who knew?!?
I'm going to have to just walk away from this. But the reality of Trump being President and having to deal with the fallout of that is a much bigger issue than a fucking TV show not lining up with it's own fictional history in trivial ways.

I don't subscribe to Corporate Group Think and don't care if others don't consider it Prime or do what I do and only consider it a visual reboot. If CBS wants to promote it as Prime Timeline then anything in there is fair game for them, as they're the ones who are making the show. But if someone says "No it's not!", then not a big deal. It just means that you disagree with who's making the show. It's happened before, it'll happen again.

I'll argue for how it can fit but I personally am not out to belittle those who have an opinion different from The Company Line. I used to not be able to stand it whenever I got a hint (rightly or wrongly) that anyone was only saying something just because it was the Company Line. And it might have not always been the case.

I apologize.

But maybe not call people flat-earthers (i.e. stupid) because they disagree with what a corporation says.

It's not fair, the flat-earthers at least have photoshopped photos. The non-primers just have their own wishes.
