No, only when I drive. Having it on me otherwise is not only a waste of time, but should I get robbed, then somebody can potentially impersonate me.

I marked yes because I take my purse with me when I leave the house...

...except when I walk the kids to the bus stop then take my walk after they are on their way to school. Hmm. I may need to rethink this.

(No, I'm not taking my whole purse on my walks -- though it might count as resistance training. ;) )

Typically, if I'm out of the house, there's a good chance that I've driven somewhere. Or I'm in a situation where I may need to verify my identity. So of course I keep my driver's license with me at all times, along with the other items normally found in my wallet (credit cards, AAA card, insurance card).

I always have my wallet with driver's license, credit and debit cards, insurance cards, and other frequently used store cards in it with me whenever I leave my apartment complex. I never know exactly what I will need with me, so I carry as much as the wallet will comfortably hold to minimize my trips back home to pick something up.

Here in Hollandwe are rquired to be able to identify ourselves to an officer if we did something wrong (like ridinga bicycle without a light or putting your feet on the seatings in front of you in the subway / train / whatever). If you can't ID yourself, you'll face a pretty hefty fine as well.

So yeah, I carry it around all the time.

Unless they happen to resemble you, I doubt that is that big of a deal. Anyone who checks IDs will (or should) check the picture.

I always carry my wallet when I leave the house. It has my DL, AAA card, debit card, insurance card, cash, work access card, and spare car key. In fact, I forgot to bring it when I took my son out trick-or-treating last weekend, and even though I called my wife and she confirmed that it was at home, I still felt very uncomfortable without it.

All my cards are always in my wallet and my wallet is always in my back pocket, so I always have my ID with me. As long as I'm wearing pants.

Do most people carry it just because they carry their wallet/purse with them and they're drivers so have their drivers license in there, or is it a conscious "I want ID with me"?
It's automatic. I'm more likely to think about the credit cards than the ID.

I want someone to be able to identify my mangled remains when I'm in an accident!
That's why I always have my teeth with me.

Automatic here as well. My ID lives in my wallet. My wallet lives in my front right pants pocket. If I ever reach into my right front pants pocket and my wallet isn't in there, I start to freak out. I even keep it in my pocket when I'm at home.

I leave my driving licence in my car (spare me the lecture) so if the car's with/near me, yeah I have ID. Otherwise no. Even then, my licence is the old-style paper kind, so there's no photo on it.

I generally only take a photo ID when I need one - eg. my proximity access card if I'm working (it also has a photo on it); or my passport if I'm going to specifically need to prove ID for some reason.

I wouldn't like the idea of living in a country where it would be mandatory to carry ID around. A bit too "deine papieren bitte" if you know what I mean.

There are rings where they take various kind of thefts, like I.D. cards, and just pile 'em up, then sell them to whoever can pass.

I'd rather not take the slim chance, and besides -- I'd have to buy another, which is very pointless.

The school I teach at is 150 yards from my house. I don't carry a wallet or money with me to work unless I know I'll need money. My wallet only goes if I know I'm going to be leaving school during the day or right after to go somewhere that I might need an ID or a credit card.

They had a Red Cross blood drive yesterday hosted by our National Honor Society. I've never given blood before and the kids talked me in to donating. They had to go to the main office, make the bookkeeper pull my W-2's to legally verify my identity. The woman in charge -- I'd had her son in band for two years, and I'm on my third year with her daughter in Band, yet she needed to see my W-2.

Think I put my wallet in my pants today? Think again, it stayed on the breakfast bar at home, right where it lives when I'm at work.

I carry my driver's license when I drive, or when I have to prove my age in order to make certain purchases or enter a bar. Other than that, I'd rather not be bothered by having to carry an ID. This isn't a police state.

I know I'm not *required* to have my license on me if I'm not driving, but I always carry it anyway, since I never know when I might need it. Anyway, whenever I leave my house, I'm almost always driving anyway.

Same here. The only times I'm NOT driving are when a friend is picking me up...usually to go to a bar.

So yeah, I pretty much always need my license.

Me either. I'm glad the ID card scheme is going down the toilet... One time I'm glad of Labour's incompetence.
