Do you agree Voyager had the best soundtrack/opening?

I love how, when Voyager goes through the planet's rings, there a "tinkling" sound.

That's the best description I can come up with. Though I suppose with the shield, there shouldn't be--I like it.

Nope, no way, no how, it's good, but not the best. Personally I prefer the revamped DS9 theme from season 4 > 7.

I agree! Voyager's theme was THE BEST as were the opening visuals. JUST BEAUTIFUL!

Personal note: My son, who played the French Horn in high school also played in another organization on Lawngeyeland. At one of the concerts, after all of the pieces that were listed on the program were played, the conductor turned, faced the audience and said, "And now for something completely different."

I of course, thought they were going to play the Monty Python theme!

Wonderful surprise: they played the Voyager theme. I nearly cried!

I'll go one further...not only does it have the best opening sequence, it also had, IMO, the best pilot episode of all the Modern Treks. This is both good and bad. It had the best pilot episode (best opening credits) and, well, seemed to meander around too much of the time after that. Ended up being too mediocre for me...to vanila. Too safe. (But at times very good). And thats why, more than any other Berman era show, this show, Voyager, just makes me want to pull my hair out.

But the opening credits are the best. Even I, a DSniner, have to admit that.

I wonder if they got that idea from the CD that was released of the sounds of Saturn several years back. The rings do indeed make a sort of eerie tinkling noise all on their own -- I think scientists have explained this a small particles impacting each other?

I've never really cared for DS9 or Voyager's themes.

I see them as too long and too subdued. They both could have been half as long to devote a little more time to the show.

I like the TOS and TNG themes. They are both very dynamic and exciting.

mmmm..I can see that. But TNG's theme (for me) is just TMP's theme (it is) which was meant for Phase Two (which it was) and comes off more as a march...

Voyager's theme, with its sweeping visuals, has more of an exploration feel to it which, I think, was the aim.

I have only seen one or two Voyager shows. I plan on watching every single episode after I finish watching all TNG shows.

One thing I noticed right off the bat though, out of all the Trek shows the Voyager series has the best opening music in my opinion. Love it!

Anyone else?

The music and the visuals were of the best in Trek openings!

I give it first prize for the visuals (which is saying something, considering I usually find the Cardassian aesthetic the most beautiful).

Music--DS9 still wins. But, the visuals on Voyager are so good that it almost ties with DS9.

And I say this as someone who by and large did not like Voyager--I'm still going to give credit where credit is due. ;)

I loved the VOY music, and would put it on par with the later DS9 opening music (after they added more instruments to reduce the sense of isolation on the station).

Don't flame me, but I also like the ENT opening music/song!

The visuals were excellent and indeed the best of any trek show, but I never cared for the music which feels pompous to me.

I love VOY's theme. I think it's the only modern Star Trek opening that didn't have some kind of change. (TNG's changed during s. 2 or so, and had the alternate titles in S6 I think; DS9 added the Defiant; ENT added "Star Trek" to the title in s. 3)

Forgot to mention the ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly" opening theme — better than the regular ENT theme and the DS9 theme, at any rate ;)

But yeah, VOY had the best original theme, given that TNG cribbed its theme from the first film.

TNG's theme underwent a number of changes over the years. DS9 received its "remixed" theme in season 4, and ENT received its "remixed" (and awful) theme in season 3. VOY's visuals and music remained the same for all seven seasons.

Musically, I think the winner is the DS9 (seasons 1-3) theme. Visually, VOY takes the cake. I'm particularly fond of Voyager flying through the nebula (or whatever that blue gaseous stuff is), and the shot where the camera flies through the planet's rings to reveal the ship flying by. Great work.
