Do DS9 eps produce the most diverse opinions.

Just about to watch a ds9 before bed, so I googled 'best episodes of ds9' to get some inspiration. First I looked at Ex Astris Scientia, and I was amazed by how differently I rated the episodes. Then I looked at a few other sites and was similiarly astounded by some of the episodes I found in peoples top ten lists. 'Take me out to the Holosuite' was found in both the top ten and worst ten lists, within the first five google results! WYLB was in a few top ten lists, but I think its garbage.

It struck me that this sort of thing doesnt seem to happen for the other treks. People might disagree to some extent, but not too much. It seems most people agree that 'All Good Things..' was a good episode; the discussion usually seems to be about how good. However, Ive heard WYLB totally ripped apart, but also put on a pedestal.

Do people agree with this? Is this true, or is it just me?

^ Really? I was always under the impression that most people enjoyed "The Circle" trilogy.

Yep, I think the only one that is almost universally acclaimed is "Sacrifice of Angels" as Beyond the stars, In the Pale moonlight, and so on will have wildly different options.

Not really - Duet, In the Pale Moonlight, Necessary Evil, Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast, Second Skin, The Visitor, Treachery, Faith and the Great River, and most of the big Dominion war episodes - In Purgatory's Shadow/By Inferno's Light, Call to Arms, A Time to Stand, Behind the Lines, Rocks and Shoals, Favor the Bold/Sacrifice of Angels, Tacking into the Wind - are pretty much universally acclaimed (at least as long as there aren't any Pah-wraiths involved). Well, some people have a problem with the Prophet's role in Sacrifice of Angels, but most people agree it's great.

The most controversial seem to be Take Me Out to the Holosuite, early Bajoran episodes (other than Duet and maybe In the Hands of the Prophets), Klingon episodes (other than The Way of the Warrios), Waltz, Wrongs Darker..., and anything related to the Pah-wraiths or Space Jesus Sisko.

I know a lot of people who hate "In the Pale Moonlight" as its "too dark for Trek". I look at them oddly, but the are out there.. (Insert X-files music)

WYLB I found so-so. Not exceptional, not bad either. But ok as a wrap-up. Agree with many of other comments here re: other eps. Wasn't fond of 'Take Me Out To The Holosuite' in context of first DVD narrative viewing, but subsequently have enjoyed as standalone episode. I think DS9 has claim to most 'diverse' (dramatically/thematically) episodes, so perhaps understandable has diverse opinions also.

Indeed, for example I find "The Circle" trilogy to be darn good trek, and most people hate it.

Wasn't hated when it first aired. It was actually very popular amongst us Niners at that time, especially considering it was the first three-parter in Trek history. Now unfortunately the more new fans tend to devalue most of the episodes that aired before season four. Shame because season two was outstanding.

^ Season two is vastly underrated, I think. People say the show didn't get good until "The Jem'Hadar," but when I look at S2, there are a ton of episodes in the very-good-to-brilliant range. My personal list would be:

"The Homecoming\The Circle\The Siege"
"Cardassians"
"Necessary Evil"
"Whispers"
"Paradise"
"The Maquis I & II"
"The Wire"
"Crossover"
"The Collaborator"
"Tribunal"
"The Jem'Hadar"

That's 14 of 26 episodes I would give a 7/10 or higher. There were admittedly a few clunkers, and the middle of the season was a bit weak, but overall, I think it stands with DS9's best.

Agreed.
The Circle thing did have huge flaws, though. In season 2 they were pumping out flawless masterpieces like The Maquis, Necessary Evil and so on which convinced on all fronts and overshadowed the arc completely.

Circle had bad pacing, ws too long for its own good, had a predictable, ultimately disappointing B-Story (Li Nalas) and the lame little Rascals approach to the conclusion didn't help the arc either in my opinion.
We also again saw nothing of Bajor. The FX were not sufficient to carry the ambitious plot.

Yeah, I think of all the series the ratings from fans vary the most...I don't even bother looking at other's ratings anymore cause they are so diff from mine.

I think season 2 was by far DS9's weakest. I think the same is true for 3 of the 5 other ST series...its odd how they can't sustain any moment from season 1.

Personally, i think the trilogy is excellent; but it has a couple of elements which might district the hardcore fans - the most important being that it plays like a TNG arc more than the DS9 we all know & love
