Why would any changelings follow him? He was kinda an outsider and he had just killed one of their own...
Frankly I would have like to have seen (somehow) Odo lead a rebellion amongst the Linksters when he had his suddenly human experience.
Maybe sorta like Damar did by only gooier

The Founders seem to be big on this banishment thing, too. Probably they have a robust mechanism for handing dissent: anybody disagreeing is spat out of the goo, and perhaps punitively transformed to solid to boot.
Which incidentally makes it all the easier to argue that genocide against the Founders is a-okay as a military doctrine, because they are all guilty as hell. If there's an innocent Founder, he, she or it ain't where the Link is, so any and all strikes against the Link are fine.

It's a fine idea, but that assumption is not supported by dialogue. The trip to the Founders was clearly for the purpose of Odo's judgment, not his immediate punishment. As evil as we might see the Founders, they clearly were giving Odo a fair trial until proven otherwise. Their sentence had not yet been decided at that point.^I always thought that the big debate was on what the punishment would be. I think it was a given that they were going to punish him, because No Changeling Has Ever Harmed Another--in centuries of incidents and circumstances.
From Broken Link, (underlined for emphasis):
ODO: What does that mean, I'm going to be judged?
FEMALE SHAPE-SHIFTER: You will join us in the Great Link, open your thoughts, and allow us to understand you. Only then will we be able to decide if your actions were justified.
ODO: And if you decide they weren't?
FEMALE SHAPE-SHIFTER: You will be punished.
ODO: Punished how?
FEMALE SHAPE-SHIFTER: You have to understand that nothing like this has ever happened in the entire history of our people. We've never had to sit in judgment over one of our own. That's why we took so long to bring you home. There was... disagreement in the Link over what to do with you.
ODO: I'm sorry I've caused you so much trouble.
FEMALE SHAPE-SHIFTER: Perhaps we're to blame. We sent you away.
ODO: But I'm the one who's going to be punished.
FEMALE SHAPE-SHIFTER: That remains to be seen.
^They felt they would not be safe until and unless all the solids were either dead, fleeing, or under their reign.
Genocide was not below them.
