Discovery's registry number

The more I see, the more convinced I am this is the refit era.

The rear view of Discovery's saucer section (top) looks very similar to the refit NCC1701 saucer section:

There are a lot of potential red herrings on the ships design which throw off or suggest different eras.

Ball turrets really imply TOS/TMP
Blue impulse engines are evocative of Enterprise
The saucer rim is very TMP
The back neck line is very close to Voyager's
The warp engines have bits that evoke TOS, TMP, and TNG.
The deflector could easily be TMP or from the Enterprise-C era.
The indent ring on the saucer feels like it could be a nod to the Franklin, but it's also similar to an indent on the Excelsior.
The general coloring feels like it could be close to the same time as the Kelvin. Though, that is lighting and really doesn't say anything. That's just the feeling it evokes, to me.
Registry, in a broad sense, implies it would fall between Enterprise and TOS.
The font used is closer to something out of TMP, sans the bold/outline.

So honestly, it could be anything. There's just no way to know. It could very easily turn out to be a ship pulled through time and retrofitted with tech to keep it going. It could be an old ship pulled out of moth balls. It could be an experimental ship for deep space exploration... Who knows!

Or the hull numbers aren't usually sequentual, or Starfleet commonly reassigns hull numbers from old decommissioned ships.

If it really is set between Enterprise and TOS, it's officially a prime universe show, but also a pre-Kelvin universe show. Which would make both 'camps' happy. The only thing is that this would mean that everything that happens on Discovery is also canon for the Kelvin timeline Star Trek movies...

I was just thinking about this the other day! It's a rather brilliant compromise. I hope it proves to be true. I'd love some cameos by the ENT crew also.

I think Star trek Beyond made it pretty clear that the Kelvin verse diverted from the prime timeline , sometime before the Enterprise series.

While we're grasping at straws here, and as Fuller's said that the Discovery's registry number holds a clue as to when the series is set, could the idea that "1031" is almost "1701" backwards have any merit?

1017 is an anagram of 1701, because the Constellation model was an Enterprise AMT kit with the decal numerals rearranged. If the Discovery era is contemporaneous with the launch of the original (un-refitted?) Constellation, and that's why the registry numbers (1031 and 1017) are so close, then the origin of the more significant half of Discovery's registry number (the 10) is actually that.

Unless you buy into the idea (as I do) that the events of FC were what actually created the Abrams-universe and that ENT was set in the Abrams-universe and not the prime.

Nero didn't create that universe, he joined it "in progress."
Which would make both 'camps' happy.
Oh, now you should know better.
