Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Oh, but you see, when people where gushing about the Enterprise and how there were only about "a dozen like her", they were gushing about the paint job! The ship itself obviously was nothing special.

No no, they were gushing about the round nacelles. Get your facts straight! ;)

She can still be a great ship with being the biggest.

A ship doesn’t need to be big to be amazing.

According to that document, the Enterprise is a "Starship" class, not a Constitution class. So, Constitution isn't canon?
It may be the current canonical name, but it's a retcon. "Starship Class" was established onscreen first and changed later.

Yeah, that's it...

Constitution Class appears on a computer screen in Space Seed.
No, it really doesn't:

In terms of a slide that actually says "Constitution Class" you may be thinking of this slide:

But that wasn't seen until The Trouble With Tribbles and even then it's far from legible on screen:

Kirk was impressed with his own ship, as were we, but the notion of it being the biggest seems tied up in the same noncanon notions as it being the (or a) flagship. If I want to go to space now, I'll be taking something specialized and quite a bit smaller than our largest seagoing vessels. If I want to go to the Arctic, again I'll be taking a vessel that isn't necessarily as big as Seawise Giant or even the CVN-65.
The class (or subclass) being Starship or Constitution wasn't essential as it was a background detail, as opposed to the look of the Enterprise herself, which was front and center. Similarly, what we needed to know about the 1701 was that she was out on the frontier and quite capable, not that she was X meters long.

480 metres is around 1,500 feet, which if you use the people as a scale marker (they match the corridors and shuttles too) is pretty close to what Doug Drexler's cutaway works out as:

1,420 feet, FWIW

Which is weird, that cutaway is canon due to the Defiant in season 4 of Enterprise, but the Defiant is now the new Constitution-Discovery type in DSC, so which is it?

Why does the one Constitution Class that has it's own schemactics shown in HD in 2005 now morph into a totally new design somehow that ripples into all it's sisters so that the 1701 is now something not remotely like it's own internal...nevermind. No one on this shows deseign teams gives a shit.
