Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Yes. Like a proper homage should. Nothing wrong with retrostyle. It is not like things in 250 years from now will follow stylistic preferences of 2018. It looks updated detail-quality-wise, which is all that is needed.
Nope.

The homages worked in ENT, TNG and DS9 because those were entirely for nostalgia.

DSC isn't nostalgia.

As you know, the original design looks laughably dated. It was okay in the sixties because it was all they could afford, but this is 2018. The Defiant in IAMD looked like a Model T next to a new Corvette. If they use that ancient, simplistic design today without substantial changes it will look like a cheap fanfilm and nobody will watch it. I swear, some of you people just want Discovery to be exactly like Star Trek Continues. Even Roddenberry threw out the sixties look with TMP. The TOS look is dead. This is what Star Trek looks like now, so deal with it.

Did you somehow miss that updated Connie on the last page? The one which I deemed pretty much perfect?

Still looks pretty dated
It does a bit, problem is it still looks like it was designed in the 1960's, that was fine in the 60's and even into the 80's but its really stretching credibility when all the other ships we have seen look more advanced (even the Shenzou which is older) and with a greater level of detail, slapping a few extra windows in isn't really going to cut it.

If we do see a Constitution class next week in the last stand I do wonder which way they will go.

If the outline of the Defiant that we saw is anything to go by the shape and nacelles will remain, with what looks to be a few cosmetic changes and some cutouts on the saucer like we saw with the Europa.

I will just do the same thing I did with the Klingon ships and just move on if so as I doubt we will see a Constitution again for a while, I do expect it to see a substantial size increase of up to 75% otherwise its going to look like a minnow when alongside the Discovery, they could even go to 800m as some believe (I am sceptical on that number myself) but if they do that they are really going to have to make some changes and add extra detail to fill in all that blank hull, some aztec motif like we saw on the Europa could help somewhat.

The producers have stated that the differences we have seen between this show and the previous ones will be dealt with so I am curious to see how that is done.

Come what may I am preparing myself for the fallout from the episode and will order in to watch the fireworks.
