What viewers? It's only Trekkies actually paying for it...You don't think making it look like a cheap fan film later will kill the show? Really? How many viewers do you think they will keep if it starts looking like a cheap TOS fan film?

Movieverse vs Discovery

The Shenzhou doesn't look so big anymore(1 pixel=1 meter)
Yep the discovery Connie will be this size. Looks in line with the original but at this size = perfectMovieverse vs Discovery

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it, that it looked surprisingly like a Romulan Warbird and they seem to use an artificial singularity as a power source.
The Eaglemoss Discovery ship scale really place it in Kelvin timeline.
I finally got around to watching the Trekyards episode and honestly, I agree with them, the Scaling makes no sense, you could fit legitimately like, 100 shuttles in the Shenzhou's shuttlebay at this size. I knew the Eaglemoss scaling was wrong the second I saw those shuttlebay doors.
Canon onscreen also doesn't match these figures, the bridge module is way to big at the size Eaglemoss is reporting.
I don't get why they keep wanting these ships so huge. Do they not realise how big the Connie? It's larger than an aircraft carrier or Cruise liner. Aircraft carriers hold thousands of people while the Enterprise holds 500.
The Galaxy class makes sense when you look at the original idea behind it (essentially a flying city with a population in the tens of thousands). But there is no reason for the Shenzhou or even Discovery to be that big. Hell from the TV show, I get the impression that there are like, 10 people aboard the Discovery because every area is so deserted.
Yeah...looks like EM overscaled them by a factor of 1.3-1.5. Some problem with file format conversion?

The biggest similarity I see is the laser guns shooting. That is similar to the reboot films.
Except then it would have all the weird scaling issues that Kelvin-Connie has (due it having been originally designed to be half of that length.) Original/TMP Connie do have scaling issues too, though less severe, those would mostly be fixed if the ship was about 400 metres. I think that would also look sufficiently large next to the DIS ships.Yep the discovery Connie will be this size. Looks in line with the original but at this size = perfect
Its unlikely that the Constitution class will be the same size as TOS given the size of the Shenzou and the Discovery, also the Europa looked pretty big as well in the first two episodes.I'm happy with the larger scale of the new movies and Discovery. It always seemed ridiculous to me in the past that Star Trek would design such small ships unable to fit the rooms etc. they'd need when filming interiors!
If a Connie shows up at the same size as the original TOS I'll be devastated. Likewise, if it looks like it's come out of the 60s/how they showed it in ENT, I'll also be devastated. To do either would be pandering to the worst kind of fan.
That's simply the perspective viewing angle. If you were looking at it from behind, and above, the beams would appear to work their way towards each other, as can be seen in Star Trek beyond when the Enterprise engages the swarm.Source?
Wrath of Khan did it first.
DSC's phasers are closer to WoK then the Kelvin Movies.
The Kelvin movie phasers spread out while firing, scattering, the DSC phasers fire in straight lines. They also fire a lot faster, like way faster. You can see the kelvin phasers travelling, while the DSC phasers don't have any motion, like they're travelling faster then the frame rate of the show.
A larger power plant would be reasonable for longer field missions.Unless the Constitution-class is designed for a smaller profile for a higher sustained warp speed for longer range missions prior to the concept of the Spore Drive. With the larger drive it could have better weapons. just not nearly as many as the larger ships that have smaller power supplies because the warp fields just won't handle the larger ships up to the speeds of the Constitutions. Or something.
That's almost enough to make me want to start playing STO again.Another image from STO

Why, just why did they needed to insist on the prequel setting??
This is certainly true. Easily my favourite ship from this show and one of my all time favourite ships. So much better than Discovery.God, but the Shenzhou is just beautiful

I don't like it being that big though. I got an impression that it was a small plucky ship.
