Some theories (note that these aren't all what I want to happen):
- The show will continue its pivot into being more character focused with a focus on emotional beats (I know, a bold prediction).
- Sammets will resent Burnham at first which will culminate in him resigning from Starfleet in a very dramatic scene. This will be OK with Adira and Reno having engineering covered and Book driving the spore drive. He will eventually reconcile with Burnham and there will be lots of tears and hugging.
- Tilly will continue to be first officer and perhaps show some struggle with her growing into the role with a dilemma on how to supervise people who are a higher rank and more experienced than you. Eventually it is reconciled with a lot of tears and hugging.
- Burnham will realize that being captain is a different role and she can't be the one saving the day all the time, she needs to delegate to / empower others instead (HAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah right)
- Adira will figure out how to make Gray real, lots of tears and hugging will ensue. Gray will then turn out to be a total asshole and ditch Adira. Adira will spend some time moping around but with help from Sammets and Culber eventually move on realizing them don't need them, can do by self.
- The first part of the season will focus on re-building the Federation, who will be in an interesting position because they now have a massive haul of dilitium, setting up some interesting commentary on distribution of wealth and the haves / have nots. There's also problems because worlds are flocking to join the Federation, but some don't care about it's ideals and are only interested in the dilitium. Results in Vance and others at Starfleet command reflecting on what the Federation really is / should be.
- The Federation starts getting a bit heavy handed and has to check themselves from using their new influence from shoving their ideals down everyone's throat. Results in commentary on what the right balance is between non-interference and stepping in when bad things are happening.
- The collapse of the Emerald Chain as resulted in the rise of a new regional power that is using propaganda to convince other regional powers to unite and attack the Federation for all their dilitium. This is Burnham's first true test in the captain's chair commanding a fleet and she is successful.
- Saru comes back to help Burnham convince Nivar to re-join the Federation. Saru starts a relationship with their president. Flashbacks reveal that there was a lot more behind their decision to leave and the Federation did something really bad in their desperation to address the dilitium shortage which all needs to be sorted out and reconciled. This is Burnham's first true test in the captain's chair using diplomacy Picard style and she is successful, resulting in a very emotional scene where she looks at pictures of Sarek and Spock while sobbing and screaming "I DID IT FOR YOU!!!"
- They try to get Earth to rejoin the Federation but it has changed too much and become too isolationist to the point where it just isn't a good fit. This is Burnham's first failure in the entire show which causes her to reflect that she's not perfect and can't do it all (HAHAHAHA, yeah right). Burnham will spend some time crying about it but will learn and grow from the experience.
