Discovery on Netflix?

Netflix UK also got access to the past series, so I am not sure if that was part of the deal with Discovery. Makes you wonder if the old series are worth more to them, than the new?

I think, yes, getting all the old shows was obviously something they would've stipulated, but I think ultimately the money they paid was largely for exclusive rights to Discovery. They've had Trek shows in some of their regions in the past, and they know its global appeal, so whilst a nice boost from having the old shows is attractive for them, Netflix are smart enough to know they'll make big bucks from being the only place in the world that you can legally watch the new show - Trek's fans will pay for it. Hell, that's one reason CBS themselves have put it behind a pay wall.

The Star Trek: Discovery title card is already on the UK Netflix when you search 'Star Trek'. Could this mean Paramount/CBS is actually being smart about international distribution?
Considering their 'International Distribution' method is primarily to sell the series to be shown on cable/over the air TV in countries other than the U.S.; it doesn't surprise me they'd also sell it to Netflix to be made available to countries outside the U.S. as well.

As has been pointed out in this thread a number of times, it was announced months ago that Netflix have purchased exclusive distribution rights worldwide, barring USA and Canada ;)

Netflix has the global right except USA and Canada. So UK will get on Netflix. You can already search for Star Trek Discovery on Netflix and it has a title card

Star Trek Discovery card is also on the Nordics Netflix. We are still waiting on TOS, TAS, TNG, and VOY though. I'm expecting they will have gotten the subtitles ready by time Star Trek Discovery is on Netflix so all the series would be available together.

It cant be a subtitles issue since TOS was in the Finnish Netflix some years ago, so they already have atleast the Finnish subtitles and could have added it at the same time they added DS9. It must be something to do with the airing rights. Or maybe delay with DSC messed up their release schedule and they are now adding one ST-series every other month instead of adding all of them before years end.

I certainly hope CBS irons out some of its AllAccess issues, because here it the States we don't have the Netflix option.
What issues are you having? I've had All-Access for about a year and haven't had any problems at all.........I travel a LOT so I dropped cable and just have Netflix, HBO Now, and CBS........so about $30 a month vs the $120 I was paying..........and very happy.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Discovery had the rights for some of Star Trek series in Denmark, though the exclusive deal coming out now with Netflix is probably gradually replacing it. Discovery had not been exercising the ability to stream or air the Star Trek series in many years in Denmark, which was probably why they were fine with Netflix picking up the rights. Deep Space 9 rights probably wound up expiring first.

I've found the app to be pretty unstable on the Xbox One. Hopefully they will update it prior to the launch of Discovery.

Finnish Netflix already has DS9 and 10 Star Trek movies. Rest of the series should also arrive before Discovery, so I think that it already is worth subscribing.

Fair point, but I already have DS9 on DVD and all the movies so far released, except Beyond.

Since January 2016 the only Star Trek available on Netflix in Japan was Star Trek Into Darkness (KKKHHAAAANNNN!!!!!). In the last few days we got all the TOS and TNG movies, TOS, DS9, and TAS. I guess a lot of my time until Discovery's premiere has been planned.

It's a big improvement on past international deals, particularly in Australia.

Watching DS9 and Voyager at midnight 3+ years behind the US was not ideal.
I do not miss the days when we were constantly years behind the US on current programming, and quite often the channel that had the rights would just unceremoniously drop it for weeks on end. Eventually a show you'd got into would become popular enough that a subscription channel would snap it up and you'd never see the rest of it until the home video release several years later. International distribution is one area that has got vastly better over my lifetime.
