Discovery Needs To Go Ahead And DO THE THING

We're two seasons into the 32nd century and we've learned all about The Burn and aliens from beyond the galaxy. Great. How about we get to the stuff that people actually want to see? What happened to the Klingons, the Gorn, ? What happened between Cardassia and Bajor? What are the Ferengi like now? Are any descendents of characters we know around? Where's the Enterprise? Who is Dax now? Who lost the Temporal Cold War and what was the punishment?

Get to it.

I know I totally speak for myself here (and it's likely an unpopular sentiment)...but I've never cared much for Star Trek diving too deep into the intergalactic politics of where the various other powers are all at. I just don't care. I want to see outer space adventures. I don't want to watch West Wing or Game of Thrones in space.

What happened between Cardassia and Bajor?
Rillak is proof enough to me about what happened. They have some sort of reconciliation and they joined the Federation, since she's the President of it. They handled this without it being an info-dump.

What are the Ferengi like now?
They're like something that would make Ferenginar be admitted into the Federation.

Where's the Enterprise?
A. We have the Enterprise in Strange New Worlds.
B. We'll probably have the Enterprise-F in Picard Season 3.
C. We don't need to have too many new Enterprises introduced to us all at once!

Who is Dax now?
Probably dead. Dax was already over 300 in DS9. But just because they can live to be 300 doesn't mean they can live to be 1,100.

Who lost the Temporal Cold War and what was the punishment?
A. 99% of us don't give a shit.
B. The "punishment" was that all time travel has been banned. Book said it upfront in the first episode of the third season.

Get to it.
No rush. This is Star Trek: Discovery not Star Trek: What Happened With All the Berman Shit.

I actually think there's no Enterprise in the 32nd Century. I don't think there's been an Enterprise in service since The Burn.

Just my opinion, but here's why: The Enterprise is about exploring strange new worlds and boldly going where no one has gone before. The Enterprise is Starfleet reaching outwards.

In the 32nd Century, the Federation is splintered, lots of worlds are out of of contact with each other, Starfleet Command itself is hidden. The legacy of the Enterprise doesn't fit where the Federation was during the 120 years leading up to third season of DSC. What we've seen in the last two seasons is Starfleet coming out of its shell for the first time in over a century.

So I think if they did have a new Enterprise, it would be a Big Event. It would show that Starfleet is fully back the way it was and the Federation is on its way there. They're really not there yet. Earth and Ni'Var just rejoined the Federation. Starfleet Academy just re-opened. They're just getting back on their feet. And it would take time to design and build a new Enterprise.

Story-wise, there shouldn't be an Enterprise in DSC. Not for a while.

I'd still like to see what's going on with the Klingons and Ferengi, not because I want the drama to focus around them, but because there's just no reason not to capitalize on existing worldbuilding to tell a better story. They told a good story with Nevar and Trill, and there's tons of creative opportunity in extending other races hundreds of years into the future. Just as long as they are the setting for a part of the story, and not the entire story.

They should find that line where they are capitalizing on all the existing worldbuilding and lore to make new stories better. Not ignoring the previous worldbuilding completely, or being so stuck in it that it turns into fanservice.

There's no need to go to Bajor because they're pretty much strongly spiritual humans anyway, although it'd be rewarding to see Bajor and Cardassia as best friends now.

The result of the Temporal Cold War has already pretty much been revealed. The Federation won, the timeline was stabilized and they illegalized time travel.

The Klingons and the Ferengi are near dead ends unless there is some revolutionary change to how they are presented. I doubt that will occur.

Klingons would be the same and no need to keep them around.

The last we saw of the Ferengi was the beginning of an attempted liberal revolution. What if it was successful? Maybe it's part of the reason Nog has a ship named after him.

Yes, if all we got was the TNG/Voy profit monkey Ferengi, I'd pass. But I think it'd be hilarious if we found them swung to the other extreme, authoritarian socialism. Talking about the great Nagus Rom and how they used to be savagely only thinking about profit.

Klingons have also had hundreds of years pass. Who knows how they evolved? You could have said the same thing about the Romulans and Vulcans and there we got Nevar.

So, the Federation in a way? Sounds like they would just join the Federation and be a part of that.

If you think they will portray the Klingons as something new then I say more power to you. I do not expect Klingons to be different, given the hard bite back from Season 1 and 2.

I'm torn on this. On the one hand I do want to see what happened to the Cardassians, Klingons etc, on the other hand I don't want Discovery to box in the 25th century series by saying what happened next. I definitely don't want it set up lore that's going to be contradicted. So I think it's better if Discovery keeps things vague for the most part.
