News Discovery isn't on TV because no-one would watch it

Wasn't that the premise of some show back in the 90's - this guy had an orange cat that would bring him tomorrow's newspaper and he had 24 hours to "fix" whatever bad news it revealed?

Yep, Early Edition. I adored that show.

It had so much heart and imagination behind it, plus the most insane collection of guests I've ever seen. It featured a long list of TV stars, most before or just as they were emerging, plus a bunch of completely unexpected cameos.

Unfortunately only the first two seasons have been released on DVD, though they were the better ones.

Yeah, there's a huge difference between the 18-49 year olds who watch TV through streaming and all of the grandmothers who watch CBS every night.

I never said that. I said that lots of grandmothers watch CBS and lots of grandfathers, minus a few such as yourself, usually prefer other genres to sci-fi. That's kind of a fact, at least the former. Don't get so defensive.

Oh no, I said grandfathers don't watch aliens, space wizards and explosions, but at least that's better than "all millennials nowadays are lazy and stupid!". When does the millennial generation start and end? Don't get so precise in your definition of a whole generation, you gaizz!!

What I meant was the people who watch the CBS network usually aren't interested in Star Trek. We both know that.

What is this "newspaper" you refer to?

I suppose the hardest (or at least most tedious) part of setting up something like a Roku or other smart box to connect online services to your TV is that you have to enter in your Wifi password (or a network cable) but once done it's as easy in my mind as using a DVD player or, heaven forbid, a VCR. Anyone ever have an old enough VCR where you actually had to tune in the channels with dials?

I'm catching up on Lucifer on Hulu right now and it's awesome that it just picks up where I left off and starts playing. I actually have to hit a button to stop it from automatically playing the next episode when the current one finishes.

As far as CBS All Access goes, as much as I hate paying for something just for one show, it's the commercials that stick in my craw. I don't know if I could bring myself to pay for that. It's bad enough with cable, that's the whole point of paying for premium services in my mind is to get away from those.

Hulu has commercials too though. Everyone is different of course, but I've found that when I'm watching Hulu I don't really mind the 2 minutes of commercials. Gives me a convenient place to use the bathroom or get a drink or read a few paragraphs if I'm multitasking.

Half the time old folks act senile is just to irritate the irritating people they are dealing with. It seems to work very well.

The last movie we ever saw together was X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and I still regret that he was too ill to see the new GODZILLA movie when it finally opened since he was a big fan of the old ones . ....

Not only would I watch it, I also just got a new 65" 4K HDR TV in anticipation of it...although of course there are perks to the new tv..like seeing Beyond on it.
