Discovery in Variety

guess this means those CGI holographic display panels are actually practical screens projected onto plexiglass on set.

also i hope the not-so-subtle halo around michelle yeoh's head doesn't hint at captain georgiou's fate.

To me it almost looks like it says “COLUMBUS CLASS”. The last three letters before “CLASS” certainly look like “BUS” to me.
Hmmm....EXCALIBUR CLASS, maybe?

Considering Columbus' reputation is a bit tarnished, I'm thinking the show stayed away from honoring him in any way. "Excalibur" would be a nice nod to the culture of the UK fans, and is already part of Trek ship name lore.

Then again, the ship name "Discovery" can already be considered a nod to British History, with the RRS Discovery being Shackleton and Scott's ship.

It looks longer than Excalibur - and the last bit does look like there's a bit of a gap between one word and the next and then Class.

Just looking at the color palette ...while I have no need to rationalize this in the timeline like some people do--the color scheme of the DSC era UFP ships look a lot like the Cage interiors. The difference is in the blue light cast by displays.

Looks like Nick Meyer's and John Eaves' influences to me. Star Trek VI's bridge had a very similar look, as did the USS Vengeance.

Maybe it's just paranoia, but I wouldn't place lift doors directly behind the captain's back like that. Then again, maybe they lead to a ready room or conference lounge.

It may be to a corridor that leads onto the bridge. I would like no ready room and minimal conference anything in this series, thank you, lol!

The second-to-last letter looks to be something like an "L" or a "U" because of the amount of blue space at the top of the letter.

I'm gonna guess the reason the bridge is larger is 'cause 16x9 is a lot bigger format then 4x3 so there's that to think about

I'd be good with Endeavour - both ship and class named after space shuttles? Might be a little similar to the reported plan for the NX Class, though.

And if they built it optimized for a 2:1 aspect ratio or even 2.35:1, the beams may have become head-knockers. :)

Something from the article I found interesting:
“Look, this was a big call for us,” he says of placing “Discovery” on All Access. He notes that both the CBS network and Showtime wanted the series, as did Amazon and Netflix, which will stream it internationally. (With the Netflix deal, the number of new All Access subscriptions “Discovery” is expected to generate and other factors, CBS considers the series paid for.)
