Discovery and "The Orville" Comparisons

CBS has plenty of worthwhile shows in its library, but that's just my opinion.

Keep in mind, CBS only just got started with two shows so far. There will be plenty more. I remember when Netflix only had one original show and four years later it has dozens more.

Now that I think about it, it could be a matter of time before the mass media corporations like Time Warner do their own streaming service like Netflicks considering how many smart devices there is all over the world.

I pay $10.99 plus tax (US) per month for the commercial free plan. So far, it definitely hasn't been worth it. There's nothing there except Discovery.

Agree. It's completely worthless to me. I already own Trek, and I can't see myself ever opening the app except for Discovery. This will sound like a silly question, but is the commercial-free plan really commercial free? I had heard it wasn't as devoid of interruption as they make it sound. I'm on the "limited commercials" plan, and I don't really care about the commercials, but I dislike being unable to rewind or jump to specific points in the story easily.

Then don't subscribe! From your posts, it feels like you've already made the decision you're not going to like Discovery, which is absolutely fine. But if its that big of a deal, you can always press the big red cancel button! (Or whatever color the button is. If there is a button.)

Let's not be hasty. If enough people do this, there won't be a show for anyone to enjoy. That's the trouble with this business model: The Trek folks don't have the same latitude to get their act together.

I don't know how easy it is to jump around episodes, but I haven't had an actual commercial yet watching Discovery.

Disney has already begun that, by starting to remove their movies and shows from places like Netflix to gear up for their own service.

It's the future. Television as it was known in the 20th century may actually die off with in this century like TNG "predicted".

As a cord cutter myself, I can't ever imagine having to watch a show strictly by its broadcast timing anymore. I prefer watching programs on my own time.

Yeah I haven't seen any commercials either. There are a lot of sure
shows and movies on the app, I haven't started watching any, but they're there.

I find myself being genuinely excited for tonight's new Orville episode. As to the next STD episode, I'd say I'm more curious.

I thought about upgrading but no commercials won't really save me any time, they aren't a nuisance and they remind me to refill from time to time

I dunno almost double the price?

Easy to get sucked into the trap of "it's only a few dollars more." I'll have to think it through. But the app has been a pain for me -- I try to rewind and am forced to watch the commercial, but then it'll start back where I was originally. And when it does work and I try to skip back ahead, time to watch the same commercial again.

I know what you mean, you go to lowes to get a tool for pruning a tree to satisfy a gripe from your HOA, but for a few dollars more, and a few dollars more, and a few dollars more, you buy a chainsaw and just cut the f'er down.

Looks like The Orville is starting to tank

This is a tricky one. Unlike any other new or returning broadcast series, Fox's dramedy has already aired five original episodes. And while its in-season airings on Thursday would place it lower on the rankings, the aggressive sampling strategy should not be ignored. Season-to-date, The Orville's live-plus-three day average (through four episodes) is a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49. But it's week-to-week trajectory is taking the southerly route. Its live-plus-same day rating most recently fellow below the dreaded 1.0 mark.
