Discovery a Netflix hit

All true. It is still new.

My point for brining it up wasn’t accuracy but that is Netflix was giving content providers data this wouldn’t be needed. It just proves content proverbs are not getting viewership data from Netflix
And of course, even if this works perfectly, it's not gonna be of use to CBS, since this only measures viewership in the U.S.

I could be wrong, but I think CBS would be smart enough to have viewership numbers written into the contract with Netflix.

Netflix does not allow anybody viewership numbers. They just don’t.

Not that we know of. But, CBS would be pretty dumb to turn over one of their signature properties and giving up the only gauge of how successful it is in a given market.

They are getting the numbers.

No they are not. Netflix never gives numbers. You agree to that or you take the show elsewhere. They will not give anybody numbers.

Post proof.

Look at any article in Netflix. They are well known for keeping numbers secret.

Also look above. Neilson is trying to determine Netflix numbers and eight production houses have signed on. They would not do that if Netflix was giving them numbers.

Every article on Netflix talks about how they don’t give numbers because they believe they don’t have to because they are not advertiser supported.

How are you supposed proof a negative? DIS is one among many Netflix shows, it is in no way essential to the platform or the company. If CBS had demanded numbers, Netflix would have walked away. It would be completely asinine and corporate malfeasance of the highest order for Netflix to open Pandora's box for DIS. Every other content producer would get wind of this one way or the other, and it would jeopardizes Netflix's entire business model. No. Just no.

Last sentence of this section of an article. Rating are not even given to creators of the shows

There are a few standard arguments made in favor of Netflix sustaining secrecy as long as it can manage. (I’m going to use Netflix as a representative service for the remainder of this piece because it’s the most popular, and it’s being subjected to the most pressure.) You can argue that Netflix’s refusal to disclose ratings in any substantive way — even to the people who make its shows

Right. They are not going to make an exception for one show that they don’t make for even their actual originals

And all of. This is one reason cbs didn’t just put dsc on Netflix in the us. You lose a lot of control over your product.

Right, this secrecy from Netflix is just as much about keeping down their own talent as it is about leverage over other content producing companies. Netflix has seen the fees paid to people like Matthew Weiner or Vince Gilligan or to the actors of The Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones. This is not a territory they'd like to enter. So it may not be all bad for CBS. If DIS were a publicly know megahit on Netflix, SMG's agent would be on the phone to CBS right now.

Might as well close this thread, since no one but CBS/Netflix will know their numbers.

The show's a hit, it's been renewed. Rejoice!

Apparently Netflix is happy with how it is working here in South Africa, which is amazing as the only show to get all 7 seasons on open TV here was Voyager ...

Yenia Zaba, the Netflix manager for media relations for Europe and Africa, said South Africans love action programming that feature strongly in Netflix South Africa's top 5 list.

"It's a lot of action stuff - Mindhunter - it was just released. Narcos is very big here in South Africa; Star Trek: Discovery is very big here and the Marvel shows [Iron Fist, The Defenders] are indeed very big here, as well as Designated Survivor and Shooter".

I love how people here are posting absolute statements as if they were privy to the details of the contracts between corporations

which, incidentally I am (my uncle works at Nintendo CBS)
