That's not entirely true for those of us that are willing to take what Scotty and Spock said in context of TOS itself.

There's no way that Romulan BOP could have gotten to the Neutral Zone in a feasible amount of time if it only had Impulse Engines.
Scotty was guessing at that moment as to what the ship had, based on the minimal scans they were able to get through the cloak and his years of engineering experience.
Scotty was really good, but he wasn't perfect or infallible.

As this excellent YouTube analysis of the episode indicates, what Scotty meant was 'only impulse WHILE cloaked.' Between the cloaking device and the plasma torpedo launcher, the BOP only has so much energy to go around; it can't run the cloak and also run navigational deflectors and warp drive. It's hide or run. Those outposts are literally on the edge of the NZ itself, and at full impulse one can presume the BOP is just under the speed of light. It doesn't have to make it all the way into Romulan space itself - just into the NZ.

Yes I remember that time as well..........the amount of hate and negativity is what ran me off for about 8 years. When I returned just after Discovery was announced the board was a much nicer place. Negativity is increasing again, but manageable for the moment.

They think I am a super DSC fanboy for not agreeing with the hate they spew.

This is not even a joke. One poster who hated everything about Kelvin started using their uniforms for the "correct" way to update something. This same poster had said some pretty vile things I am not gonna repeat about those uniforms when Beyond came out.

Star Trek is a house. It has different rooms. TOS is a room. The room was redesigned. All the other rooms are the same. Changing one room doesn't make it a new house.

I'd argue that Star Trek's had some retconning, not that it was outright rebooted. At least not on the TV end. They're still referring to other series in DSC and presumably will be in the Picard Series.

To me, a reboot is like the 2000s Battlestar Galactica. It wasn't trying to be connect to the '70s BSG at all. DSC still seems to want to be connected to the other Star Trek series. Right or wrong, they don't want to get rid of the episode backlog.

Eh trek retcons its self like crazy. But this does not change the whole history, just rewrites small sections of it. Ok The ENT Klingon retcon was a massive change, but for the most part they are minor.

Oh yes, we saw exactly ONE ship with a cloaking device. That's definitive, all right.

srsly, Discovery was the only witness to that ship cloaking, as far as I know. So assuming there are no crew on DSC who would later be assigned to the Enterprise...we're still in the clear.

Indeed, IIRC the only one in TOS who expresses a huge amount of skepticism about cloaking devices is Spock, and he's definitely not there during the Klingon war.

And before anyone brings up ENT: It's obvious that the Romulan ship in that episode isn't exactly up to factory specs, as it were. It cloaks and decloaks at totally random moments. Looks like the cloak is malfunctioning. (In the novelverse, that's exactly how they rationalize it. The cloak takes so much power that it never works right and even destroys the ship.)
