Director Tony Scott commits Suicide

Oh, my goodness....

"Tragic" hardly begins to describe this. Tony Scott was one of the greatest directors of our time. Top Gun...Days of Thunder...Crimson Tide--Unstoppable--

What on Earth drove him to this? Probably, as others have suggested, it was the elusive happiness he never achieved, despite his fame and talent. Nonetheless, he always struck me as someone who took pleasure in his work, who enjoyed what he did...but--

RIP, Tony Scott...and flight of angels sing thee to thy rest. :(

I'm thinking he must have been diagnosed with something nasty and terminal, for somebody like him to do that...

Thankfully, most of us have not had to deal with friends or family committing suicide. So when someone we have heard of, someone whose art has touched us in one way or another, kills himself like this, it is more shocking than someone we have never heard of.

Some of us have, and this is still one of the more shocking and surprising ones!

I just watched Unstoppable last night. Very fun movie.

I enjoyed his work.

RIP

Loved both "Beverly Hills Cop II" and most especially "True Romance." Such a truly sad and horrific way for ANYONE to check out. :(

Can't really say I liked his films - most just didn't appeal to me.

I must say, however, that if he did have an inoperable brain tumour, hard as his choice of exit will be on his friends and relatives, it took some guts.

Rest in peace Tony...

He went out on his own terms, rather than suffer through brain cancer. Can't fault him for that.

RIP.

I agree with you there but I think unfortunately what will be remembered is how he died, not why he did it.

I'm sure what will be remembered most are the films he directed, many of which were influential or successful, and a few great.

When Jefferson wrote, "They are endowed by their Creator," he meant something. You may disagree with it, but we dare not dismiss it.
He might have meant Creator in a generic sense. Most of the FFs were deists, the least devout form of theists.. they might have been full atheists today.

(So...you're going off-topic by quoting my sig? I am amused....)

As if to add to the tragedy: I've just heard from a news broadcast on Tony's untimely demise--apparently, he was still working on that Top Gun sequal.

*sigh*...Guess not, now--unless someone's going to take over for that.
