IIRC, in the current Navy, the ship's captain dictates the uniform of the day. Starfleet may well do something like that.

If I was a Navy captain, I would have my crew go back to the days of Admiral Nelson.

Pike and the gang actually were wearing the DIS uniforms during the Talos IV incident. Those early 60s TV cameras tended to be a little screwy and play tricks on the eyes at times...

Can you be a little more specific? I've never read the Vanguard books and don't know what you are referring to.
Addressing things like the uniforms in the novels is silly and shouldn't be done.

Finally! A novel that I can really enjoy. The clothing thing. He spends way, way too much time detailing just what uniform they are wearing. He uses this same thing in it, "Oh these guys now have to ware miniskirts, because that ship had not had them yet" and so he spends ages talking about how each female character looks in her mini skirt and which ones go non-regulation and wear some practical pants.

We can, but probably not tonight. Can we 'shop an insignia onto those jackets?
It’s called an ‘Easter egg’
I’ve read a lot of the books but I never noticed.Read the Vangaurd ones. I liked them for the most part, but he spent way, way, way to much time on uniforms. And pointing out how each woman looked in them. And pointing out which ones went non-regulation. I mean really, whats the point of pointing that out?
He also had a kinky cross species lesbian thing going on.
