Spoilers Differences Between "The Cage" and Discovery (Minor "Desperate Hours" Spoilers)

Not according to the book that was supposedly written with input from the shows writers.

Thanks for the spoilers, having only picked it up today. But I'll see for myself if that's part of the flash backs or not.

And as it's always pointed out here, novels aren't canon.

Article seems like needless bandaid fixes. I think everybody understands that you can come up with a rationalization for EVERYTHING. But do we really NEED these fixes.

For a fandom that has a bandaid fix for the tiniest little continuity error, why the hell not? Trek fans are known for arguing about every little detail in regards to continuity errors and how they could possibly work. I don’t know why now has to be any different.

As I said in that same post, why add more continuity errors to fix? We already have enough to debate endlessly for a lifetime, let's avoid making the problem worse.

Maybe they have military uniforms (Discovery) vs exploration uniforms (The Cage).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Discovery uniforms switch to TOS ones sometime during the run of the series.

^ Well to be fair, the novel doesn't exist to fix the continuity issues. The author just happened to feel like mentioning them.

Depending on the launch date they consider, Enterprise may not be that new. If she was launched in 2245, she's 11 years old by DSC.

Maybe the Enterprise just uses an old bridge module. All it'd take is some throwaway line where a visitor to the Discovery says something like "Wow, nice Mark III bridge! Rest of the fleet's still stuck on the Mark I".

Plus, wouldn't there also be other new starships built, not just Connies? How come they wouldn't have the velour uniforms?

IIRC, in the current Navy, the ship's captain dictates the uniform of the day. Starfleet may well do something like that.

I've heard talk that DSC's costuming department actually has created Cage-like uniforms for possible future use. FWIW. :shifty:

Well, the DS9 crew still kept their original uniforms for a full Season after we saw the mew 'Movie" uniforms of ST:FC.
That's not true. DS9 switched uniforms mid-season, shortly after First Contact came out. Only one episode aired with the old ones after FC.

Who is also to say that there aren’t different classes of uniforms? You may have Dress Uniforms, more formal ones (like you see on Disco) and the casual set (like in “The Cage).

Seriously, people. If you don’t like the semi-official answer, use your brains to try to explain these discrepancies. I won’t deny they exist but it’s such a little thing in my brain, I just don’t understand such anger and frustration around this whole thing.

I have. Its a reboot. :techman:

Yup.

This is borderline hysterical, though it does remind me of all the Enterprise era novels that were coming out, desperate to try and answer/fix/solve the issues being raised in the series.

As Rambo once said "Let it go... Let it go..."

I mean it's cute, but the moment they show us the Enterprise in the series, it goes right out the window, not that it was on this side of the window anyway, but I digress... It's better to just accept it for what it is, and stop trying to shoehorn things. We don't live in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s anymore. This is new. Let it be new.

And if that works for you, great! I have no opinion on whether it’s a reboot or not at this moment. If it is, awesome! If not, then they have a little explaining to do.

What I care about is good stories. They’ve let me down a little on that point. But they left the series in a compelling enough place to keep watching. For now.

About fifty pages into the Mack book. I think he has an interesting premise, but hasn't really done the Burnham character any favors so far.

It's official, no denying it anymore.

"Pike made all that statement about women, Now look, hyuk hyuk, he's getting bossed around by one."

Georgiou is the senior captain, she has been serving longer then Pike which gives her the prerogative.

It took the US military years to roll out its new camo uniforms in the early 2000s.

The US Military doesn't have replicators.

Needing a novel to explain away a continuity issue with uniforms is about as pointless as a two-part episode explaining why TOS Klingons don't look like TNG Klingons.

Well the novel isn't canon so you don't need to listen to it if you don't want to.

Pike and the gang actually were wearing the DIS uniforms during the Talos IV incident. Those early 60s TV cameras tended to be a little screwy and play tricks on the eyes at times...
