Did you submit scripts?

Back in the day, when DS9-TNG accepted outside scripts, did you any of you ever submit a script? I did. Some of you might remember my FANFIC "The Island". That was a story that I converted from the script I sent in. I did another one with Kira adopting a teenage Bajoran girl.

Although the scripts were never used, I still have them hanging in my office the stamp on them "SUBMITTED MATERIAL" and such and such date.

Did any of you submit a script?

Rob

I submitted several spec scripts to both DS9 and VOY.

Wow, Bolian. Have you posted them anywhere or converted them to fan fic?

My friend and I wrote a script for THE DEAD ZONE, when Piller and his son did that show, and wow, I really thought our script was cool and would have been one of the best episodes.

But it was fun writing. We got that HOLLYWOOD SCRIPT writer program and had a blast. When I did my TREK scripts, there was no such software, well, at least we didn't have it.

I bought a script of "THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK" at a convention and just looked at how it was done and copied the format.

Not for Trek, but once I tried to sell a Justice League story to DC. It was a Prometheus story, and in the light of maturity it turns out it was not terribly good. Yet I think I can say without fear of contradiction that it was better than Cry for Justice. Yikes.

By the time I was old enough to do such things with Trek, the only shows on were Voyager and Enterprise, which I would have had no interest in writing about.

I am a big JLA fan. Did you ever publish it on line? If not, what about posting it somewhere where we could read it...

Rob

I submitted a DS9 story about a terrorist bombing of a Federation transport vessel as it was about to dock at DS9. Sisko's sister was on it, and he became obsessed with finding the group responsible. Also had Jake dealing with the loss of his aunt without his father, since Ben was off doing his thing. IIRC, Ben had a choice to personally aprehend the bomber or stay for Jake. He, of course, chose to let Federation authorities handle it while he and Jake finally reconnected.

It was a serious, and frankly dour, story. I wasn't surprised it went nowhere, but it would have at least mentioned Judith Sisko again.

It actually sounds pretty good ssosmcin. I often wondered why they never mentioned her again.

My Kira script had her adopting a teenage bajoran girl who was a discpline problem and who reminds kira of her self. This girl has grown up in camps, and has chip on her shoulder. Kira enrolls her in Keiko's class and she nearly kills Rom when he oggles her one too many times.

There was a B-plot with Sisko trying to teach Jake piano in the holosuit with the aide of Ray Charles (he was still alive in real life).

No, I never really translated any of my script stories into fanfic, though I suppose I could very well have. Maybe I'll have a whack at it one day, if I ever find my Trek button again, lol... two years of writing "Battlestar Urantia" has pretty much made the Trekverse feel unfamiliar to me, writing-wise. I need to get back into the Trek groove.

That would be amazing too...you and Star Trek? I think we'd all like to see that!

By the way, are you watching 24 and Flashfoward? 24 recently has Katie on it, and now James Callis is on flashforward, and doing a great job...

I actually posted the first "epic" I ever wrote here on the BBS, which was a TNG/DS9 story entitled "Star Trek: Entomalians". It was received very well, but looking back, I would one day like to re-post it here, using what I have learned from writing "Battlestar Urantia" in the re-write. I would say you could search for the story, but it's no longer to be found here... I have already tried.

Rob/All,

I admit nothing would please me more, if a Producer would pick up my FanFic and put it on the Screen.

However. to tell the truth, I couldn't care less if it were mine or not. Just something good, from any one of us. That covers a lot of Authors and Fic here on this Board.

I think the Actors and Writers are cutting their own throats.
After they get a season or two under their belts, they want more money, and it's on and on with that. They've already moved locations to the less expensive places (Canada/Other) to reduce cost. I just don't understand why all of them want to be Millionaires, isn't a comfortable living good enough.
No wonder the seasons are getting so short, you remember back with TOS and others, they were on the Tube EACH week, for years. it's getting shorter and shorter. Shame.

Maybe I could change the subject for a moment here...
When you write Fic, do you have a sense of how others view it, or is it just a flow of your own imagination, and you don't care.
How would you evaluate that, comments on it from other Users ?
How many Views were being generated ?

The way I'm moving in my Fic (weird as some think the format is :)) I'd like to move to things other than narrow escapes from the Borg, or blowing up things.
The traditional Trek doesn't have much sexual component in it, a few love scenes (Riker/Troy). Just how tabu is that subject, I'm almost afraid to ask ! In fact, I'm holding a Post back right now, that eases into a sexual content, I'm not sure if i should post it or not.
Is that something that has been done in Fic here?

OH, I must admit, I haven't read much of the other Fic on the Board here, actually none of it. It's not because I don't think it's any good, but, I just don't want to be influenced and duplicate a Fic that's already in progress. I can be influenced by what I read, so, i don't, then, what I write is absolutely original.

What do you think of that/any of the above ?

Have a good Day ! :)

In fairness to them, even if I suspect many or most don't really consider it, acting isn't a profession with great job security. Even the biggest names can fade into obscurity, and given that many actors' auxiliary skills might qualify them to work at a Taco Bell (naturally, since they've spent their time specializing in one very competitive field), building up a fortune capable of sustaining them through life should be a priority.

I totally see where you are coming from. There are people on this site, and BBS, who write terrific fanfic. You'd be suprised at how good it really is.

Me? I don't have their writing skills. So I compensate by finding goofy things to write about. The Enterprise was created inside the bile duct of a Elephant's ass? Yep..I did that. Or...Jack Bauer from 24 crossed over to Trek? Or a Giant Tree is heading towards a planet and Kirk must stop it? Or, A fly, yes your common house fly, is there at many of TREK's greatest moments? Or four horny teenagers get caught up in a thriller? Or a star trek actor named WILLIAM SHA..I mean, WILLIAM SERGEANT plays four roles on a TREK tv show, including an android named MYLF (milf)....

But even though I try to write this crazy stuff, I still like to read the traditional TREK stories. I wish I could write one but I can't. And since I do like star trek, I do like to read it. You're story, SW, is good because it takes the familiar TREK universe and tells it in a fresh way...so keep it up!

Rob

Myasishchev,
"building up a fortune capable of sustaining them through life should be a priority".
You're absolutely right. I/We have gotten to love these characters, and, I don't want them to wallow in poverty.
There should be a reasonable contractual endeavor, which will provide for these people. If it's syndicated, they should see some of that money.
After all, it's their work that's being shown and making someone else money. It's/they aren't doing it smartly, and someone needs to wake up, and set some standards on it.

Rob,
"it takes the familiar TREK universe and tells it in a fresh way".
Yea, that's what I'm worried about, it being TOO fresh !
That's why I'm holding back on that Post (mild sexual content), it might move forward into something that could be considered inappropriate.
I don't want to start something I can't follow up on.

I considered it, but for some reason found writing for Star Trek next to impossible. Can't say why. Once I told my story using my own characters and setting, the writing process flowed much easier.

Yes. Twice. However, being that I was thirteen years old at the time, it did not surprise me that my pitch was rejected. However, someone in the script department at the show was good enough to send me a thank you letter and guidelines on proper script format, which was a major boost for me at the time, and further inspired me to continue with my writing.

I never submitted to Trek again but the (now silly) sense of pride I felt getting that letter really helped me, setting me on a path I really wanted to take but had been unsure of to that point.

Exactly how I felt when I got the feed back. They did the same thing for my DEAD ZONE script and sent a thank you and 'we really liked your material, but have decided not to persue it at this time. Good luck"..or something like that...

Rob

I have the EXACT SAME reasons for not reading other people's fanfic, so no worries there, mate.

In terms of fic from here being translated into film... I am currently heading the "Battlestar Urantia" film production, which is of course, based off the fanfic of the same name, which can be found here. Check the Fan Productions thread for more info on that.

I was also always planning to produce a film version of my "Star Trek: Entomalians" series, but all that has to wait until after I am done with BSU.

In terms of sexual conduct... there are multiple instances of such things in "Battlestar Urantia", but none of my Trek stories have ever featured anything like that. I think it depends on both the author, and the story... if the story dictates it, you can add it, and if the writer feels comfortable enough writing it, then go for it.
