Did you know rape is funny?

What the fuck is wrong with you, Jayson? :wtf:
Did you really think I would let this one fly? What about your sequence of tenses?

"Did you know rape was funny?"

J/k :p

Or it's so poorly done that the scene itself is laughable because of lack of film skills.

I've heard its quite the opposite of that which is mainly why I have no reason to check out the movie. Several of the reviews I've read says that it is one of the most graphic rape scenes in any kind of mainstream movie they've reviewed.

I've not seen the movie (nor will I). I was just offering another reason why some people laugh at what SHOULD be a gravely serious business in a movie, but turns out to be otherwise by incompetence.

It can be graphic and still badly realised. I bet many of those laughing were just laughing because it was so bad. Let those people watch Irreversible and most of them won't laugh.

People laugh when publicly viewing things that make them feel awkward or uncomfortable as a way to relieve tension.

You see teens laughing at public viewings of Schindler's List, as well. This isn't because they think that the Holocaust is funny, but because they need to let out some emotional reaction and laughing is more acceptable than crying or screaming.

Yeah, I embarrassed the hell out of myself once when I was younger because I couldn't stop laughing in the middle of a funeral for one of my friends. I had to get up and leave, it was honestly uncontrollable. Then I went outside and started balling.

There is a video game where you rape women. I've read people comments all over the web, and it's not simply laughing because they are unconfortable, but they actually think it's funny; people getting their head blown off: hilariuous according to random internet dumbass. So forth.

Here's a tip: it's not real. People aren't laughing at rapes and murders, they are laughing at simulated rapes and murders. There is a difference, an immense one. You've never enjoyed a violent movie where someone was killed? If you have, aren't you being a bit of a hypocrite?

And there is no video game where you rape women unless you're talking about some cobbled together flash piece of crap. There is certainly no rape in Grand Theft Auto if that's what you're referring to, at least none done by the character. You can bang a hooker in your car and then kill her when you're done, but that's different. You can also kill thousands of cops with a rocket launcher and mow down hundreds of pedestrians with your car, in the grand scheme of things those are far more greivous simulated acts than a simple rape.

And if you're referring to Custer's Revenge that old 80s game... puh---leeese.

^He's presumably referring to "Rapelay", a Japanese Hentai game that was being sold by a third party Amazon.com seller until Amazon removed it recently.

You know the worst film rape I've seen was Monica Bellucci's in Irriversible...
It still make's me feel sick just thinking about it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that pretty much all decent people shouldn't even find simulated rape all that funny. That's a bit different from violent shoot up movies, where the people getting shot up usually deserve it in some way or another, even if their the good guy. I'm not sure there's a case to be made for even cheering on simulated rape.

Which I mentioned above as a scene nobody would be laughing at.

Nobody gives a monkeys about the characters in a horror movie. Everyone laughed when the "amorous couple" in Snakes on a Plane were attacked by a snake too.

I'm not sure it is any different. Nobody here is defending people actively laughing at a rape scene but in many, many action and horror movies, violent horrible deaths are played for laughs. How many times has James Bond violently killed someone and then made a joke afterwards ?

What difference does them deserving it make ? Killing someone for their supposed crimes is murder, not justice.

Is it the identity of the victims ? Some random, invariably male, mercenary working for the evil big boss versus some innocent girl ?

As I said, a stupid game a couple of hacks put together than no one cares about. You can find ANYTHING on the Internet, doesn't mean you should hold it up as an example of what society enjoys or finds acceptable.

Some of that Japanese shit is so weird and perverted it's hard NOT to laugh at the over the top foolishness of it all. Laughing at some gigantic breasted woman with purple hair getting banged by an alien with six huge penis tentacles does not make one amoral and does not mean a person enjoys watching people get raped.

My post was for informational purposes only. I do not condemn or support the game I mentioned. Please read the rest of my responses in this thread if you think I am suggesting that one game is representative of an entire culture or an entire industry.

I don't disagree with you.

Only an effete liberal like you would jump to the defense of guys who laugh during a rape scene.

The context is enormously important here. The scene took place in a horror movie. Viewers laugh all the time during horror movies in part because of the adrenaline rush and as a release from the suspense/shock. There might have been a different response if the scene was in a serious drama.

Also, as has been pointed out, the chuckling teenagers in question realize that it's fiction. They know its just a bunch of actors on a set.
