STAR TREK: The Next Generation is the best series in the franchise, is it not? In GENERATIONS, when Guinan says of the Nexus, that it's "... as if joy was something tangible and you could wrap yourself up in it, like a blanket." Replace "Nexus" with "TNG" and you start to get a basic understanding of the level of satisfaction this show brings. You've taken your first step into a larger world, in other words.
A philosophical friend of mine once noted that "even 'bad' sex is 'good' sex" and that's definitely how I feel about some of the episodes of TNG that have slipped just below par: even a bad espisode is still good! And when you think of how much TNG has given to the other series in the franchise, it's really incredible!
Jonathan Frakes in DS9, VOY & ENT. Sir Patrick Stewart even revisits Locutus in DS9's pilot episode. GENERATIONS offers an aged William Shatner one more opportunity to sport his girdle and hairpiece in the name of James T. Kirk. I mean TNG just gives ... and it gives ... and it gives ... and so on. Even to Denise Crosby who felt that TNG wasn't good enough for her - ha! - what does TNG do after Yar's killed off? It keeps allowing her to suckle at the teat of this brainchild of Gene Roddenberry time ... and time again!
Everything anyone could want to watch STAR TREK for is present and accounted for: A stellar rolecall of the brightest stars in the industry, during the 8O's ... and beyond; GR's direct involvement; Imzadi action for the Romance Novel lovers in the audience; Space Exploration/battles; Klingons & aliens galore ... the most beautiful women!!! And all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy. That's all it wants from you. You know? If only the rest of The World were as eager to please as this form of entertainment is ...
