Did the Equinox crew go to jail?

Pemmer Harge

I can see how the Maquis people might end up being pardoned after Voyager returned to Earth, but Lessing, Gilmore and the others were mass murderers. Surely they didn't get a hero's welcome?

I can't imagine they would. My guess is that if they performed well enough on Voyager they may have been given dishonorable discharges instead of jail time. However, since they were never shown again that's pure speculation on my part.

They might have gotten away with dishonorable discharges because Ransom was the one responsible for their crimes. OK, personally I think that "they only followed orders" is always a bad excuse but that might be a reason for them not to be jailed.

The thing is, it's not like they were capable of alerting a nearby Starfleet outpost, or higher up for support when it first started. They were kind of in a bind, even if they didn't want to go along with it, there wasn't much in the way of choice about taking the moral high ground fo th most part.

When Voyager comes around, I'd say that people had gotten so used to 'the routine' and may of been too ashamed to have spoken up the minute they made contact with Voyager to immeadiately fess up.

Oh please, the entire incident would have been classified top secret, and no charges would have been laid no matter how indelibly self evident their guilt was... It's just a question of what their cover-story would be? that they had always been aboard Voyager or the meeting up with Equinox had all been LOLs and smilies... Or that they are dead and they'd be given new identities as they're dropped off on a colony world to vanish or a penal colony to serve out terms of imprisonment for imagined crimes with similar sentences.

In all the fanfare with Voyager arriving back at Earth, everybody might have forgotten about their little killing spree. After all, weren't there less than ten that even survived "Equinox?"

Go to Jail?

Could the have prepaid their sentencing?

Tom got his Rank back after a few months, but Suder was expected to sit in his room for 70 years.

I mean Janeway must have been at least of two minds on how to treat these people: that they didn't deserve responsibility, that they were expendable and therefore MUST be heaped and overloaded with Danger as much as responsibility, or at least more expendable than Crew who hadn't screwed her over, that they should be purposely expended before their presence got more embarrassing the closer they all got to home, or that they should be intentionally kept out of all harms way so that they could be made an example of when they got back, especially if these buggers, that their court martial made the worst of her crew look like angels by comparison. Meanwhile what if they couldn't take it? What if they acted out or made another bad call? Confined to quarters? Stasis? Marooning? Execution?

If their fates had to be decided ultimately, did Janeway have the complete legal authority to do whatever she wanted or would they have had to set up a court in which to argue the merit of their case, because lets face it Janeway only has authority on that dinky little ship and they have the MOST rights to fair treatment on that dinky little ship... That if anyone of them were on an away mission is it mutiny or desertion to request asylum or just leg it that they can't be trusted to carry out normal duties anyways?

Why am I thinking that Neelix would have to be tapped as the Judge in any trial, if they decided to "object" to Janeways orders and general demeana since short of Tuvok, who is too intimate a "friend" not to be thought of as conflicted, that it would be hard to find some completely impartial to their case.

Probably the most likely scenario IMHO :vulcan:
I wish that these characters would have reappeared in a "lower decks type" episode like Good Shepherd -- which might have given them a shot at a bit of redemption.
The episode would've been called Black Sheep ;)
:lol::lol::lol:

Every time I see this thread in the VOY forum, I read it as "Did the Equinox crew go to hell?"

I don't know why.

Now that is an interesting question?

If Equinox had happened a year or two earlier, and they'd gone to Planet hell where the rest of them had met the quicksilver life forms, would the original janeway have forbidden the equinox 5 from sharing their DNA, since in some senses it could be construed to be an escape attempt, and would NuJaneway attest that the sins of the fathers and mothers should be carried by the Equinox 5's spawn or just outrightly object to their donation?

I cant imagine that Janeway would ever have seen this crew as expendable and put them into harm's way deliberately. That's just not the Starfleet way. They will be sent to a penal colony on Earth much as Tom Paris was in "Caretaker."

They should have been sacrificed to the people they wronged...
An eye for an eye

Janeway let the frikken ship blow up, which kind of covers their agreement with the aliens, I'm pretty sure the aliens were appeased enough not to give a crap about the 5 survivors.
