Did Mc'Coy or Scotty ever have any brothers or sisters ?

Excellent point. It comes when you don't create a character but a plot device. Most Star Trek relatives are simply plot devices.

A Star Trek relative that wasn't a plot device is Sarek. Such a well drawn and acted character, Sarek even made the transition into a later series and the movies. He lived.

Lets hope that if the new movie shows us any family Scotty or McCoy has - or any other charcater has, that they just won't kill them off. We give Kirk a son just to kill him off. We give Kirk a brother just to kill him off. We give Scotty a nephew just to kill him off. We give Spock a half-brother just to kill him off. We meet McCoys father on his deathbed. I don't understand this fascination with death of relatives.
Because relatives are annoying? I know mine are.

And look how popular both of Spock's parents became. Bet they added to the ratings (hint, hint authors).

But not exactly canon is that McCoy is divorced and has a daughter. I say not canon since I don't believe he ever mentions it in any dialogue, but there is mention of his ex-wife and daughter from old TOS production notes. In the original script for Way to Eden, one of the "space hippies" was supposed to be McCoy's daughter, Joanna.

Yes, I read the same thing. From what I remember, the article said that McCoy was supposed to have been close to the ages of Kirk/Spock, etc and they didn't think that he would have a daughter that old. McCoy's daughter was then re-written into Chekov's girlfriend.

Too bad, I think the episode would have had more emotional impact if it was McCoy's daughter, and maybe have her die at the end after biting into the apple. :(

I always wanted to see more references to Picard's mother after early Season 1 of TNG, but since she was supposed to have died at some untold point prior to 2364 and having holoprograms or recurring dreams about a dead old French lady would have been creepy sooner or later;) I suppose it was a good thing we got the one single look at her and that was all.
