Did anyone watch the Oscars?

Normally I wouldn't watch one of these all the way through but just see who gets nominated for what, but geez that last 20 minutes. What a mess?

I feel sorry for everyone involved with La La Land that really was a fun movie and I liked it. But Moonlight got the statue.

I just watched the live feed on IMDB before all that with tweets and announcements but none of the actual visual and audible noise. It was pleasant. But I just had to watch the last 20 minutes and caught that mess that was the last award.

No, anything you have to 'campaign' to win when it is supposed to be awarded on merit is essentially valueless.

The ending was crazy, at first I thought the La La Land guys were being gracious like when Adele said Beyonce should have won.

I do like to watch sometimes to see all the beautiful people in their beautiful clothes and sometimes for the humor or whatever but I pay very little attention to who actually wins nor do I care. Although, after watching Luke Cage I do like that Mahershala Ali is having success and getting recognition from his peers.

I thought Jimmy Kimmel did a fine job. Some people didn't like the politics, but come on, the Academy Awards (like the Olympics) have always been political. So I could stand it to some degree. I watched from the very beginning - then missed the In Memoriam segment due to a family emergency - but I managed to see the rest of the show from the hospital E.R. waiting room.

I thought it was nice of Jimmy Kimmel to surprise those tourists, although they didn't seem too surprised.

And Emma Stone was saying she had the envelope for Best Actress winner the whole time. What does that even mean? That she knew she was going to win?

Now I understand - PWC had two briefcases, each with a set of envelopes containing the winners. I thought she meant she'd had it before she was announced as the winner.

I looked in a couple of times.. I saw the part where they fooled a some folks into thinking they were going on a tour to see some Oscar gowns and such and ended up bringing people through the auditorium... Jimmy got several celebs to take pics and Jennifer Anniston even gave one lady her sunglasses.. I have to give props for that stunt.. Otherwise the show really holds no charms for me.

I watch it religiously every year: it's the film buff's version of the Super Bowl. I wouldn't think of missing it.

And, yes, last night's ceremony was a good one by Oscar standards: it moved along briskly enough, there were some good speeches, a nice mix of humor and sentiment, and, whoa, a twist ending worth staying up past midnight for!

I usually watch and enjoy the Oscars even if I don't recognize or care about half of the nominated actors/actresses/films. However, this year's broadcast was, quite honestly, the worst one I've ever seen, not only because of the trainwreck ending, but also because of Jimmy Kimmel turning it into A) a late-night talk show, B) a reenactment of the Candy Bomber's exploits, and C) a tourist attraction.

It doesn't even matter to me HOW the debacle at the end happened. The fact that it DID happen was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for me on a night when I was already feeling like I should've found something else to do, largely because it created chaos at the end of a show that really needed to be over and killed all of the "energy in the room".

Well ratings are down again so they probably realized "Fuck we need youtube and twitter talk!!!" so they gave that poor old guy some random case.

I'm glad I dont give a fuck what rich assholes think of other rich assholes' movies.

I always watch the Oscars. It is still quite prestigious and always a good show one way or another. This year, though, I watched only through the best animated long form (I think). Anyway, Zootopia, a movie I just loved won, so that made me smile.

As for the Best picture snafu, on the one hand, the Oscars could use a bit of down to earth chaos, but on the other hand, I feel bad for the La La Land group as well as the Moonlight folks.

As someone has already pointed out, the Oscars have ALWAYS been political. So no reason to expect recent years be any different, especially in the political climate in which we all find ourselves. Was hoping Streep would win just to hear her clap back.

Jimmy Kimmel did a great job, IMO.

I went to my parents' house to watch it since I don't have TV.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, mostly because Jimmy Kimmel did an outstanding job as host. He was super funny. His ongoing "feud" with Matt Damon was hysterical.

I don't think awards matter that much, and I generally see less than half of the big nominated films (at least at the time of the awards). But if the host is good and the speeches are interesting, it's a good time. Shame about what happened with Moonlight and La La Land at the end. I especially feel bad for Beatty, who was in probably the most awkward position imaginable. Totally was not his fault. Whoever handed him the wrong envelope off-stage is probably job hunting today.

I didn't watch the Oscars - partly because I don't have cable, but mostly because I have no interest in them or in any of the films mentioned therein.
