Did anyone tape "Voyager" when it was new?

I Just saw Coda the other night, some of the cuts are just painful. Really badly done. Makes me glad I saw that and other episodes when they were first run.

The last time I saw "Scientific Method" on TV, they cut out one of my favorite scenes--the one with Chakotay and Neelix in Sickbay comparing their ailments like old men. It's a crime that they take out scenes like that!

I wonder if your DVD set is not an official one--maybe taken from a rerun?

I have Season Four on DVD. (I think it's 4. They're
in storage at the moment. The season with "Hope and Fear")

When I watched the episodes, I continually thought,
"Where's that line?"

A lot has been cut out.

In "Demon", there is a line about the silver-blood memetics
giving Voyager the deuterium they need - gone!

In "Vis a Vis", when Tom and B'elanna are sitting in the
Camaro, she asks what cars were for.
Tom says something about nekking.
In my DVD version, they climb in the car and just go at it.

My set is clearly edited.

Are your DVD's legit? There are a lot of Star Trek fakes going around. From what I've seen, the Voyager fakes are the best-looking of the lot, with individual season boxes. Does it have Chinese writing anywhere on the box? There are comparison pics online if you google.

I just got Voyager on DVD from eBay, and I had to wade through loads of fakes before I found the real box sets.

yea, taped them for sure when they aired. but in this day of dvd sets, and HD tv, and dvr's why even bother keeping the tapes. fast forwarding on a vcr is so painful now.

1) To see the original version. Hence, the reason for this thread.

2) I can take the VHS tape from room to room and watch it on any machine. ( DVRs can't do that)

Yes, I know DVDs will do that too. If I had a portable DVD player, I would watch STAR TREK in my car.

I think they're legit. I bought them from Walmart. They have a professional looking package. I don't remember any Chinese on the box, though. I haven't seen them in 8 months (They're in storage).

Yes, I used to tape Season 6 / Season 7 episodes when they first aired on SkyOne during the days of OnDigital/ITV Digital.

The only Star Trek episodes I have on tape are "Regeneration" and "The Expanse" from Enterprise. Someone generously recorded those for me, since I wanted to see those episodes, but no longer had SkyOne at the time.

On my DVD that line is still there. Not sure about the other episode, but I do remember that line when I watched the series through on DVD a few months back.

Rats! I must have been tricked!
I'll have to carefully scrutinize any future products I decide to purchase.

Heh yup! I even recorded over an old tape my mom had and I got in trouble for it. And no, I unfortunately don't have them. I moved continents since then plus the tapes would've been dubbed in german and I prefer the actors' actual voices heh...

I was wondering if anyone taped the episodes when they were first run because I wanted to compare a few things to the DVD edited editions.

In Equinox Pt 1, the scene involving Gilmore decrypting the modified engines on the Equinox in Voyager's astrometrics lab was removed on the initial broadcast.

Well, in the US it was. In NZ we got the full version.

I forgot to answer: Yes I did tape Voyager, every episode on first run. It was fun to look back a decade later at those old TV adverts!

Two huge crates of VHS's were binned when I got the DVD's three weeks ago (and again for DS9 last Friday!:D)

I used to tape TNG, DS9 and Voyager when BBC2 originally aired them. I didn't have a "long play" function on my VCR either, so a 3hr tape was just that - could fit 4 eps on.

No, I don't have them anymore. That would be ridiculous...

"Voyager" audio

I was hoping someone who had original broadcast
recordings could look up a few things and set some
records straight.

But, they have to be first-run.
check out this posting for the sound of TOS episodes changing over the 5 releases on consumer home video formats.
The Original broadcast is not the canon be-all-end-all...

Looks like I got a fake then with season 1.
The picture quality is really good. fooled me. Region 1 NTSC. Subtitles are English, Japanese, Chinese.

You know what I miss about the original airings? The previews. This is pretty much for all Star Trek but showing the trailer to the new episode with the "All New Episode" at the corner of the screen was one of the highlights I had during the whole Star Trek experience.

As for the question, I did tape Voyager from time to time. Don't have those tapes anymore but whenever I wasn't home, I would record it and fast forward commercials.

I did the same thing. It was using a VCR for time-shifting, something most of us do who have a TiVo or VDR included with our cable box.

I used to tape 2 or 3 one-hour dramas every week and one was ST:VOY from about 1997 through 2001 using the VCR. I did it purely as a time shifting but not having to watch commercials was the bonus.

In the age of DVRs and TIVO's, I feel somewhat old for remembering what it was like with VCR's. Kind of makes me realize how my parents/grandparents felt. ;)

I taped every episode from start to finish and still have them!

One thing I can tell you is during the original airing of "Dark Frontier," there was a scene between Janeway and Torres shown in the trailers, but it never made its way into the broadcast. The scene when they are discussing Seven, Janeway says, "We just lost one of our own," and Torres replies, "She was never one of our own, Captain."

This scene was put into the DVD, but oddly enough was never in the actual aired episode, and at the time, it was feature-length.
