Did anyone tape "Voyager" when it was new?

Greetings everyone,
I am new here.
I have heard model builders talk about this BBS, and
decided to check it out.

I have a question about "STAR TREK Voyager".
Did any one video tape record the shows as they
were being broadcast for the first time?
Not reruns, or syndication?

Do you still have those tapes?

(O.K. two questions. ;))

I have original-broadcast Seasons 5-7 (plus 1-4 that I recorded in syndication). The tapes are buried somewhere in my house. Don't know what kind of shape they're in.

Welcome to the board. :techman:

In answer to question #1 I did tape VOY when it first aired. No DVR's for me back then.
But, I just recorded over them after viewing.

Yeah, I used to tape VOY--I would edit out all the commercials, though. On extended play, I could fit eight episodes on a T-120 videotape that way.

I long ago got rid of those tapes, but mainly because my local station ended its deal with UPN shortly after the fourth season started and wouldn't get it back until the seventh season. I decided it wasn't worth trying to play catch up, so I scuttled all them and moved on.

Yes, I taped them. Yes, I still have them.

Next question is: Why do you ask?

i use to tape TNG, DS9 and Voyager. i have a few of those tapes around somewhere. maybe. i've moved a few times since the end of Voyager and they may be lost.

I used to tape them but I've long since thrown the tapes away (along with the VCR). Replaced them with the DVD box sets, they take up much less room.

I did! :techman:

As I live in an European country where Voyager wasn't aired until 1998, my first glimpse of the series was by tapes I rented from a shop in my home town. I watched season 1 and some episodes into season 2 before the series started to be aired where I live.

When it started, I decided that I wanted those episodes on tape so I taped them one by one. In 2006 I bought Voyager on DVD but I still have the tapes stored in a large box.

Same for me.
Plus, it's an added thrill knowing that some of the eps. on DVD are slightly longer than what was shown on TV.

Being gripped by the premise before watching the show I bought the VHS tapes first, considering being in NZ the tapes came out about a year before TV3 began broadcasting it.

I bought the first two seasons before stopping. Was off to university at that point and couldn't afford to continue. Eventually sold all those tapes to help pay for course fees.

Recorded all of Babylon 5 though. :)

Yep, I recorded it on good old VHS back when V'ger first aired. But, like the others, I would often re-record something right over the show after having seen it.

I used to record them but after buying the dvd sets lost track of what I have on VHS and what (if anything) got recorded over.

I used to stay at my friend's house on school days to record Voyager in it's last season. I also recorded reruns of TNG and DS9 that came on at 3,4 and 5 in the morning. Suffice to say, the school days were very interesting

Ahh the memories. I actually bought(yes bought) all these VHS from an old lady, with all the shows(well till then, so no Enterprise) on them. The poor lady almost cried when I came to pick them up, and she wanted my phone number so she could call and see how here tapes were doing. It was so heartbreaking...She taped every episode , and then copied these little sheets to put around the package, and cut out of TVGuides the little explanation on every show and stuck that on the video's. Must have been a lot of work, and I was extremely happy that I got all the Star Trek tapes.

But if you want to have them, I have to dissapoint you, I will never give them away I think(ok, maybe to someone who hasn't seen Star Trek and needs to be converted...)

I was wondering if anyone taped the episodes
when they were first run because I wanted to compare
a few things to the DVD edited editions.

Any DVDs you buy now are edited.
Any reruns you see in syndication are edited.

As an example, in "Living Witness", at the end,
the Doctor and the curator are looking for the
Tricorder that had scanned Tedran.
The scene shifts to show that it is just a hologram
of those events.

The woman curator is explaining how those events were
a pivotal time for their culture.

The DVD then has her go to the portrait of the Doctor
on the wall and explain what became of him.

In the original version, she pauses by a small table
that has a tricorder sitting on it. She says that it is
the one used by the Doctor and did scan Tedran,
proving Voyager's innocence.
She also mentions that the events with the Doctor
took place a number of years ago, (My failing memory
suggests she said 500, but could be different.)

I was hoping someone who had original broadcast
recordings could look up a few things and set some
records straight.

But, they have to be first-run. Even the reruns during
the seasons were edited.

I can look some up for you? But to be honest, I don't know which tapes the Dutch television used, maybe they are re-edited?

I know there was one VOY season that had a couple of minutes shaved from every episode that aired during the first run, and that those minutes were restored in the DVD. I think that is the only difference between the DVD and the first run shows, though.

I have a gripe about the DVDs. I wish they had included the previews and the ads for each season. I wonder if they will ever make those available?

^
that would be nice .I'd actually like a director's cut for every episode. I'm just wondering why the director chose certain scenes etc. But that would be a lot of work for them to do that now probably...

I have Season Four on DVD. (I think it's 4. They're
in storage at the moment. The season with "Hope and Fear")

When I watched the episodes, I continually thought,
"Where's that line?"

A lot has been cut out.

In "Demon", there is a line about the silver-blood memetics
giving Voyager the deuterium they need - gone!

In "Vis a Vis", when Tom and B'elanna are sitting in the
Camaro, she asks what cars were for.
Tom says something about nekking.
In my DVD version, they climb in the car and just go at it.

My set is clearly edited.

I've always wanted episode commentaries. Guess I got spoiled with the nuBSG (yes, that again!) dvds where all of Moore's podcasts are included.
