Did anyone get a Windows 10 invite?

Nothing has started here I'm hoping it will pop in the next day or two..

There have been a number of media articles floating around that there's no guarentee that people will get their Windows 10 upgrades from the get go.

From what've I read those on the windows insider program will be getting first dibs though many of them are probably pretty much at the final release after Microsoft's most recent build was released.

Ah. So we might have to wait. That's a bit of a bummer..

Also it's going to be sold on USB sticks instead of disks.. At least that is what I read..

^No hidden folder labelled $Windows.~BT in your root directory?

Just had another sneaky 70MB download onto my system... Ten minutes to lift-off (maybe)!

Yeah, I've got it in my root directory, too. It's 12:07 AM. Come on, Windows, any time... *crosses fingers*

I love Cortana. I have her on my Windows phone, and she has become indispensable. She sings songs to me, tells me jokes. When the computers rule the planet, Cortana has promised to vouch for me. :adore:

Mine is installing now. Well "Preparing to install" which takes forever, then does the "installing" which takes ages too.

It's being activated in "waves". Some people in New Zealand are reporting they have it... seems like we just have to wait till our number comes up!

Fix for the 80240020 error when trying to install Windows 10

What this error means is, your Windows 10 installation folder is unfinished and/or corrupted. Now, how do you fix that?
1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch, hopefully without flaws this time.

I'm not sure the waves are by country - one of my machines got the update, the other is still waiting...

couple of quick thoughts:

1) Still don't like the start menu, so I'll be installing start10 at some time over next week

2) Wifi sense is a crazy idea and was turned off instantly.

Yeah that whole sharing your password no not a great idea. I wonder what brainchild thought that one up...

It's been on Windows phone for a while. As an idea it's a good one, at least in theory. You automatically log in to free wifi on the go, but the with friends of friends on facebook thing is stupid.

Reporting in from Windows 10 and Edge.

The outcome is that Microsoft are building a massive database of wifi passwords - many of which will be reused by users on other accounts. It will be just sitting there waiting to be breached...

Edge I used for about three minutes - it doesn't have extensions so without lastpass or an adblocker a waste of time at present.

Yeah, they're also mapping Wireless networks, in the same way Google are. Apparently you can opt-out but you have to change the SSID on the wifi, meaning you need an opt-out, so your SSID would end up looking something like "WiFi_Opt-out_No_map" just to get them to not map you, which of course they will anyway.

In theory it's a decent idea, in practice it's completely nuts.

Yeah, I'm sticking with Firefox, just figured I'd try it out.

Didn't Google have to pay a sizable fine for those sorts of wifi shenanigans?

Maybe Microsoft needs to be taught a lesson, too.
