early internet reports and rumors from various news agencies said it would be mostly "ccurate" to star trek as we know it. Hence....

we may get to see the mysterious away team mission that "altered" the young crew of uhura, spock, kirk, McCoy, checkov, and sulu.

Or we may get to finally see on screen, the magically interesting event were jimmy kirks daddy became a massive hero to the federation by using an un commissioned ship called enterprise to save a large number of civilians

There's no canonical reference to Kirk's father doing any such thing. In fact, there's no canonical reference to Kirk's father outside of the nuTrek movies.
