DEXTER Season 5 Discussion & Spoilers

This season has been very uneven but is still pretty good. Quinn's motivation is all over the place. Dexter is being extremely uncautious and there are apparently no consequences for this (yet). Harry appears randomly, but that's better than having him in every episode I suppose. Like Temis I was expecting them to drive Dexter's character off the rails this season which is something they have not done before, but instead we've gotten another apprentice type storyline like we had in season 3, which is OK too I guess. Fairly ambivalent at this point but hoping that something interesting will happen in the next two episodes.

Before this ep, I was of the opinion that Dexter and Lumen's relationship should remain non-sexual. But then that hotness at the end happened and I found myself ok with it. ;)

I felt kind of the same way. But when it happened, it felt sort of natural, in a way Dexter and Rita never did. My only concern was I don't know if Lumen would be so open to physical intimacy with a man after what she's been through....

Maybe this show will turn into Crash (not the Don Cheadle racism movie, the James Spader "car crashes make me horny" movie) where in order to ignite the passion, Lumen and Dexter have to kill someone beforehand. :)

I agree. This might be the first time Dexter has actually fallen in love. I know he loved Rita, but I think it was more about protecting her.

Finally, an episode that delivers the kind of creepy psycho edgy suspense that this show is known for! I was really starting to feel down about this season, but if this is all a setup for getting Deb to learn the truth and have it seem plausible that she wouldn't turn in Dexter immediately, then it's worth it, because I think they're on the verge of pulling that tricky plot-twist off. I used to wonder whether it was even possible. :bolian:

I think this is the first time Lumen really seemed scary. Maybe it's realistic that a previously normal person wouldn't jump feet first into psycho-hood from the first.

However, I gotta wonder whether it's going to make sense in the end that Jordan would give the cops a witness against him, even as part of a nefarious plot. When Dexter and Lumen are neutralized by Miami PD, won't Jordan's ass still be in a sling? Is he just crazy and overconfident, or does he have another trick up his sleeve.

I have this weird feeling that Lumen is gonna take the fall for Dex.
Yeah, and Dex will have to accept her sacrifice, since he's got kids to raise.

I'd like Lumen to be in prison and not dead at the end of the season, leaving open a hope for an eventual reunion with Dex. Dang, they might have more than just one more season in this story.

Lovely idea. :D

I really want them to do one season (the final one, I suppose) where Dexter just goes increasingly nuts. I thought that if Deb learns the truth, then there's only one more season possible, and there hasn't been setup for Dexter going off the rails, but now I wonder if Lumen might become a replacement for Deb's role in the story as a kind of emotional counterweight to Dexter.

We could have a season where Lumen willingly takes the heat for the murders and allows Dexter to get off the hook for the sake of the kids. Then through some legal maneuvering, she's released from prison and re-enters the story the following season. After that, anything's possible. What if Lumen and Deb both know the truth. They don't like each other! :D And with Lumen in the show, it's possible for Deb to die.

Well, if they run with the thread that has been implied this season that Deb would be just fine with a vigilante killer (as she is in the books, apparently) then the series could be stretched out for even longer.

But I'd rather it didn't go for so long.

As for Lumen taking the fall (say, for the murder of Robocop, which seems inevitable), how would that happen in a way that didn't end up implicating Dexter (or at least putting suspicion on him once more)?

^She isn't fine with it in the books. She kinda grudgingly accepts it, but seems like she would bring him in if she thought he killed an innocent.

Ah, okay. I haven't read the books, so wikipedia is what I have to go on when it comes to them. Still, that doesn't seem far off from where this season has suggested Deb could go as a character.

Deb finding out about Dexter's secret at the end of the season might make this season worth it in the end. Might.

Who else knows about the Dexter-Lumen connection besides Deb and Robocop, and we all know Robocop is a dead dead duck. :D And Jordan, an even deader duck.

Hmm. Astor and her friend know. The friend is probably out of the story as of next season but Astor poses interesting possibilities...

When Dexter saw Lumen in her kill outfit, based on the way he looked at her I was expecting him to say, "That's hot."

I thought everyone at work knew about Dexter and Lumen now?

I can't believe this show is still great after 5 years. Even without Lithgow!
What a wonderful surprise Sunday's ep was. I hope that Deb finds out about Dex and is cool with it. It's just as well that Rita died when she didn't, she couldn't have handled knowing the truth. But Deb, who is generating a lot of frustration with the justice system as a theme over the series... she might just get it.

But as I'm watching new episodes I wonder just how the writers may mess with us... with only Deb find out about Dex? Or will everyone? How long will it take and when will it happen? Will it even happen at all?

If everyone finds out about Dexter, the show is over. Building up to his sister, fed up with the way the police work, finally learning that he's a vigilante killer is one thing. Letting other people know (and, worse, know that he has a need to kill and just uses vigilantism as a cover) is something else.

Deb has to kill some one and Dexter covers it up before she finds out that Dexter is the bay harbour Butcher.

Balance.

So she has to weigh off his 300 plus and counting murders to her one.

Does she have the gall to turn her brother in without being penitent herself?

I don't want the show to end the moment Dex is found out. If it happens it should be focused on for a bit.

Thing is, I can't see anything in the way of a trial happening (although it would be kind of kewl to see all his victims recapped one at a time) and I suspect Dex will get killed the moment he's found out or something. A lengthy trial would not be in this show's favor. It's too good (can't stand tv shows involving drawn out courtroom scenes, so boring and overdone).

^ I'm just the opposite there, I love a good courtroom scene. :techman:

I think it would be interesting to see him found out and to see the fallout from that, but who knows if that's what will happen.

Dexter will be tried, convicted and killed by lethal injection, then wake up to find Robert Vaughn waiting for him, who has work for him to do. :)
