Detective Pikachu: The Movie

I think it looks good.

There is a sign on the poster that says "Unova Style Pizza". I thought that was clever.

Maybe they are eventually going for showing parts of all 7 generations, but it's an odd assortment of them so far. Sinnoh being just north of Kanto, Unova all the way across the world from it, but only using the first 150 Pokemon.

Then again, I don't want to see the state of CGI artists after trying to make all 800+ of them.

I used to see episodes of the TV series as a kid.

So it takes place in another reality where Pokémon coahbit a world with Humans. Tech level is like ours but cities differ. Are there countries and animals?

Wonder whether the movie treats us to some world-building or acts in-media-res style.

The trailer has several non-Gen 1 pokemon in it.

I had to make do with a poorer quality version, I'll find the better one tonight and see. As long as they don't have Zubats it's fine.

IGN did a video pointing out of the details in both the trailer and the poster, around 1:40 in.

There actually appears to be more Non-Gen 1 Pokemon in the trailer than Gen 1.

If it's like any other version of Pokemon, there are no non-pokemon creature other than humans. I don't think it's ever been explained other than humans and pokemon have lived and worked together for all of recorded history with pokemon basically feeling the same roles as animals in societies but as (maybe) sentient pets with powers. Some pokemon were even worshipped as gods and are deeply rooted in human culture.

They also find nothing odd about sending 10 year olds out into the world with just one pokemon, some pokeballs and the social pressure to catch all the pokemon.

The newer generations have been more vague on other animals existing but they're occasionally hinted at.

The Pokemon world has better technology than ours. The Pokeball has a containment system similar to a pattern buffer that stores the Pokemon in an energy state. The Pokemon Center can heal them with an energy source while still in the ball.

They have holographic technology, the Pokedex is more advanced than most smartphones, and have better basic AI than Siri even in Generation 1, while Generation 7 has Rotom's existing in the device to make them sort of sentient.

Most of their planet has travel systems more advanced and faster than ours, and even in the most remote areas you can still get something better than a 4G signal on your tech.

That and the Global Pokemon Storage System means you can keep all your Pokemon in their pattern state, swapping your 6 out by depositing and uploading them to the ball no matter where in the world you are as long as you access one of the terminals.

It always bothered me in the anime you would see just Ratatas as like street rats and Pidgeys were regular birds. The implication is terrifying when you consider that they're all arguably pretty damn sentient.

So, animals exist but are rare, and some of their ecological niches are filled by Pokemon. Wonder what aquatic life is like. They have fish, haven’t they?

In any case, sounds like aliens dropped their wildlife on this Human world.

There are a lot of fish pokemon, most famously Magicarp.

Pokemon fish, yes. But animal fish? I think I dimly remember seeing as a kid either Pokemon or Digimon characters fishing, and wondering how that worked.

There are animal fish if some of the shop signs are anything to go by, and the fact that Water Pokemon have to eat something other than each other.

Pikachu or Ryan Reynolds?

(Sorry!)
