I didn't read the story since it seemed to be going over stuff I already know about, but it does sound really cool. I was a bit surprised it wasn't just a recreation of Courscant or Tatooine or something we saw in the movies. I love that they are including things like Lothcats.

The Star Wars hotel done up as starship bunks seems like a really neat idea.

There’s a podcast called Disney Dish that’s been detailing some of the info that’s leaked out. One of the ideas is that it’s entirely in the Star Wars universe, so the gift shops won’t sell t-shirts since there aren’t any t-shirts in Star Wars. You’ll only be able to find them at the Star Tours gift shop. There will be toys, but they will appear to be handcrafted much like the toys kids play with in the movies like that scene at the end of TLJ. They mentioned an AT-AT which while still made of plastic, looked like scrap metal shaped into one. There’s also going to be an optional personal storyline you can do if you stay at the hotel. You get a guide and your actions in the park affect the outcome, so if you dump your shipment in the Falcon ride the people you promised it to come looking for you at the cantina. They also have a patent for a machine learning program where they’re going to feed a computer all of a charaxter’s dialogue so an animatronic can recite realistic dialogue based on that character if asked a question. I think they want to create Westworld without the sex.

Are they keeping the murder aspect from Westworld? :-)

A more serious question is, does anyone know what they'll do with star tours?

There’s a patent for a helmet with an AR element. They speculated that it will allow you to have a blaster or lightsaber which may allow you to blast stormtroopers. It won’t really do anything physical, but it would appear on the screen in front of your eyes. They want to blow the Harry Potter park out of the water.

Heh. Went to Disneyland the first time as a kid when I was 11. Futureland was my favorite park. When we went the 2nd day of our vacation, the parents cut my sister and I 'loose' to run free with a rendezvous point and time. I made a bee-line back to Futureland and spent almost the whole day there in total immersion- pretending I was a 'space ranger' or something in the future, and shaping a narrative in my imagination to correlate to myself going on the different attractions over and over. One of the best days ever.

I turn 50 this year. When the SW park opens next year, I plan on going- by myself. I won't be able to recapture age 11, but guess what I'm going to do?

I wonder how much it will cost.

Edit: I mean the entry fee, not the cost of building this park!

It'll be free (with cost of admission to Disneyland or Disney Hollywood Studios)

    (So not free at all)

In California, Galaxy's Edge will, as far as I know, be part of Disneyland itself, since it's being built just to the north of the Frontierland, the Rivers of America, and Critter Country.

Yeah, it's a shame they've priced admission (and that's before you get to food and souvenirs) out of the range of a lot of low income families. When I was a kid, Disneyland used to be something we could all do even though we were poor. And even into my adult years it wasn't that bad.

I understand that they have to pay for all the new attractions, but it would be nice if they could divert some of the billions in film revenue they're making to keep the parks accessible to everyone for a reasonable price.

They've started doing tours and discussions with the press for Galaxy's Edge and lost of new information is coming out about it.
One of the big pieces of news is that the Smuggler's Run attraction, where you get to fly the Millenium Falcon, will feature an audio animatronic version of Hondo Onaka, and yes he will be voiced by Jim Cummings in case anyone was worried. He will actually be the one of the most advance animatronic characters that Disney Imagineering has ever created, and one of their first to be electric, rather than hydrolic.

Smuggler's Run is a fully interactive attraction where you fly the Millenium Falcon on a mission for Hondo.
There will be stores where you can build your own R2 or BB droids, and your own lightsaber.
Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac appear as Rey, Finn, and Poe in Rise of the Resistance. The attraction also features a confrontation with Kylo Ren, but there is no mention of Adam Driver.
All of the food and drinks will be Star Wars themed, like Ronto Wraps, Meiloorn Juice, Felucian Garden Spread, and both Blue and Green Milk. They will offer both meat and vegetarian food, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
There will be animatronic Loth cats.
The Play Disney Parks app will become an in universe datapad that will allow you to interact with the land.
Both Smugglers' Run and Rise of the Resistance will feature new John Williams music.
Rex from Star Tours is now the DJ at Oga's Cantina.
StarWars.com has posted a whole collection of stories about what there is to see and do there.

Looks incredible, but I wonder how the experience will be, elbow to elbow with about a hundred thousand of your closest friends. Both sites are going to be packed to the gills for a few years after they open.
