Destiny - Let's Roll!

Finally got THORN!
The quest to acquire this hand cannon was....wow...nigh on frustrating. But I dood it! :)

Have to say, until I lock its abilities, it is not as impressive as I thought.

Now that I've unlocked Thorn's primary abilities, it is a sha-weet weapon to use! I can see why some folk complain about it.

I have a smattering of damn fine Exotic weapons.

PRIMARIES: Thorn (HC), The Last Word (HC), Red Death (PR), MIDA Multi Tool (ScR), Bad Juju (PR), Universal Remote (SG)

SECONDARIES: Invective (SG), Pocket Infinity (FR), Icebreaker (SnR), Patience and Time (SnR)

HEAVIES: Gjallorhorn (RL), Truth (RL)

Yeah, my arsenal is pretty sweet. And that's just the Exotics. :)

Dude, you are about to enter a crazy world! My tips:

1. Find at least two buds who'll play with you. Destiny is a multiplayer game- not much fun SP. Plenty of people to play with.
2. Don't be put off by the short basic campaign. That's just a primer. The Raids are where it's at.
3. DO run the weekly/nightfall every week! The weekly strike will matchmake you so you can play with strangers.
4. DO jump on Destiny LFG and join a Raid when you think you're ready!
5. DO go an hang out on the Destiny reddit- great community, great tips- don't be afraid to ask for advice on how to get the gear you need. The economy can be a bit dazzling at times.

You've jumped into the game at a good time- with two content packs having dropped there is loads going on.

And whatever you do.... don't take any Wooden Strange Coins. (Xur doesn't like them. ) :)

So Ghost gets a new voice...

We recently visited Bungie for an in-depth look at Destiny: The Taken King, coming away with all sorts of details about the upcoming release. One of the most surprising changes is coming to what is arguably Destiny’s most central-voiced character: the Ghost. The tiny floating robotic being is the de facto narrator throughout the base game, and he assumes an even more important role in The Taken King. Playing that role moving forward is Nolan North, replacing Peter Dinklage in the name of a unified character voice throughout the entire game.

Players who are used to North’s work on games like Uncharted and Assassin’s Creed are likely to be surprised the first time they hear his latest role. In taking over the role of the Ghost, North echoes some of the cadences and quirks established by the character’s original voice actor, but his line delivery is hard to immediately connect to his familiar heroic tone. “I was really excited to do this role,” Nolan North tells us. “You want to give him as much personality as the world will allow, without making it unbelievable. There’s a fine line to walk there, and I think we found it.”

Sad that they couldn't/didn't get Peter Dinklage to reprise the role.
But, I have also enjoyed Nolan North's voice work, from Uncharted, to Deadpool (animated Hulk vs Wolverine, and the video game), to The Last of Us, and so I am looking forward to hearing his take on Ghost.

Oh, and 'grats on the Gjallie, SPECTRE! It's a fun weapon when you unlock its main perks. :) I have it and TRUTH (another fun weapon). :)

From what I've read, Nolan North completely redid all of Dinklage's voice work in everything that's come before, too. Was Dinklage's voice work really that poorly received? :wtf:

I totally enjoyed Peter's work as Ghost. :)
I think part of the ill reception was one certain line (which both got parodied in t-shirt form, and I think removed from the game recently.)

"That wizard came from the moon!"

It received extremely mixed reactions.

Several problems with the Dinklebot voicework (IMO):
  • it's obvious from the delivery that some of the lines were recorded BEFORE the massive changes to the story
  • a lot of people didn't "get" the character's attitude (very much not human, but also not your generic Hollywood AI) - Ghost is very aloof, sometimes mysterious, sometimes borderline world-weary, sometimes ironically bored etc. - he is a typical Bungie-style artificial intelligence
  • some line reads seem to suggest the Peter Dinklage doesn't have a 100% grasp on doing voice work and the direction he received was spotty at times

TLDR: I think Dinklage did a great job overall, I really like Ghost as a character*.

R.I.P. Dinklebot

*(he is, after all, almost the only character in the game who receives any sort fleshed out personality)

I agree, SPCTRE. Ghost seemed to be the only character that had some sense of humor, as well....except for one scene where the Guardian gets to crack the joke...slightly at Ghost's expense. :)

^ (I get why some people come to that conclusion, I totally get it.)

Got two more exotic bounties today, a duplicate Invective bounty and the Super Good Advice one which is awesome because that was the last Y1 e-bounty that I haven't done yet.

Thank you, based RNGesus
