I wasn't expecting him to kill her, but I was seriously expecting him to render her permanently infertile and/or to break up her marriage to Will.
No, first of all, the problem about the pregnancy came too soon in the story for it to end badly - and it was announced as some kind of definite catastrophe. That, to me, just reeked of deus ex machina-solution... which we got (even more than I expected in that Deanna won't just be able to carry that child but have further children in the future).
I guess it would have been different, had the pregnancy been introduced as some kind of happy event, and later on turned it dangerous for Deanna - perhaps during her stay on New Erigol.
(But then, between Wildfire and the end of A Time to..., I'm quite used to have to mop up after the Mack Daddy's literary excursions.....)
Hm... apparently you like clean-up duty, otherwise you'd oppose repeatedly being scheduled right after Mack's "excursions".
