Destiny - exceed or not?

David couldn't be that malicious as to kill Deanna off could he?
Obviously, you've never met Dave............

I wasn't expecting him to kill her, but I was seriously expecting him to render her permanently infertile and/or to break up her marriage to Will.

No, first of all, the problem about the pregnancy came too soon in the story for it to end badly - and it was announced as some kind of definite catastrophe. That, to me, just reeked of deus ex machina-solution... which we got (even more than I expected in that Deanna won't just be able to carry that child but have further children in the future).

I guess it would have been different, had the pregnancy been introduced as some kind of happy event, and later on turned it dangerous for Deanna - perhaps during her stay on New Erigol.

(But then, between Wildfire and the end of A Time to..., I'm quite used to have to mop up after the Mack Daddy's literary excursions..... )

Hm... apparently you like clean-up duty, otherwise you'd oppose repeatedly being scheduled right after Mack's "excursions". ;)

Kinda makes you wonder what the approval/negotiation process is for Dave's Vanguard novels is like.

"No, Dave, the galaxy still exists in TOS's second season; you can't destroy it... no, not even the Delta Quadrant... because it has to be left intact for Voyager, that's why... yes, I'd like to f*** Voyager too, but it's canon..."

Actually, I joked to Marco about that very thing when he came to me with the notion of what would become A Singular Destiny.

^^Well, let's see, nothing's been done with the Large Magellanic Cloud...

Was it the LARGE Magellanic Cloud in The Sundered and in The Red King, or was it the SMALL Magellanic Cloud? It's hard to keep the cloud-galaxies straight:rolleyes:...

As for me, Destiny absolutely met my expectations: I expected a big fucking mess for me to clean up in A Singular Destiny, and that's exactly what I got. :D

So what do you do with all the bodies?

Now that Destiny has been out and quite a few have read it did it meet or exceed your expectations and all the drama and hoopla building up to it or was it a let down?

There was so much build up about these novels prior to the release for months that I was really afraid I might be let down and disappointed but I'm happy to say that I was not. I loved the books overall. The pacing was good and the use of all the characters was good and the voicings for the known characters was spot on for the most part. Each book left you hungering for more and that is what I look for in good story telling.

As I said elsewhere on the board I was not all that impressed with Ezri Dax as captain and the Aventine crew but not to the point where it robbed my enjoyment of the series overall. Thanks David Mack for a wonderful story. I'm sure this is a series I will read many times over the years! :techman:

Kevin

The Destiny Trilogy for me did in fact exceed all my expectations, I unfortunately had a few minor quibbles concerning it, but they are so insecticidal they didn't bother me too much.

Definitely exceed, considering these have probably been the only three Star Trek books that I'd wanted to buy immediately after they'd been released.

Would you have preferred to write "Over a Torrent Sea" then?

The Titan crew would seem to have it easy. While the rest of the Federation has to rebuild, they just fly off on their merry way, back to exploration of the Beta Quadrant :D

i expected a lot, but was also worried about the DEM ending, which i feared would be worse than it was. i should really trust Mack more. it, by and large, met or exceeded my expectations.
