Destiny Book 3 extract in new Star Trek Magazine

The latest issue of Star Trek Magazine (14) is about to hit newsstands in the States (and will be out in the UK early November). Of particular interest is an extract from the final Star Trek Destiny novel, which chronicles a fateful meeting between Captains Picard, Riker, Dax and... well, at this stage, that would be telling too much. The main focus of the issue is on the Romulans, with a great piece by Michael A. Martin charting their history (incorporating their appearances in TrekLit), and a character study of Sela by Bob Greenberger, who also pens this issue's Eye of the Beholder opinion column. There's also an eye opening interview with new Captain Kirk, Chris Pine, and the original Romulan Commander herself, Joanne Linville. Not only that, there's an incredibly insightful article about Captain Kirk not being the maverick he's been made out to be! Add in free copies of the posters from ComicCon and it's a fun pack!
On a more serious note, the issue is dedicated to the memory of "Last Lecture" writer Randy Pausch, and a member of the TrekLit family, Robbie Greenberger. Because of the multiple territories the mag goes on sale, I didn't include a last para for my editorial, encouraging anyone to register with their local Bone Marrow donor register, but please take this as that extra bit!

Sounds like you've got some really good stuff in this issue. I'll have to remember to check at the local Fry's next time I go home.

Isn't there also an incredibly insightful article on how Kirk's rep as a maverick has no basis in reality? :D

<whistles innocently> I believe it's mentioned.... (sorry!!!)
:guffaw:

Yeah, I know - it's a dangerous precedent for editors to set, admitting they screwed up!;) even more so when they compound the error, and don't mention that said article is written by KRAD! (if anyone didn't guess)

:guffaw: Indeed, although Paul and I have been talking about doing this article since before Senator McCain got the nomination...

I can just see it now - copies of Star Trek Magazine being held up in the middle of major political debates, as its writers and editors are accused of political bias.

Oh it's lovely to be in the UK sometimes...

What are you talking about? Star Trek is completely void of political commentary. It's for the feable minded really...

Yes, of course, Trek is just lightweight fluff with no deeper meaning. Our only goal is to make people happy and cheerful. This is why people keep saying we have a "gay agenda." ;)

Sorry, but since when has there been a gay agenda (or supposed gay agenda) in Star Trek??????

Sorry, but since when has there been a gay agenda (or supposed gay agenda) in Star Trek??????

Going by some of the emails I get about the fiction, apparently there's a gay agenda, a white agenda, a feminist agenda, a male chauvanist agenda, a conservative agenda, and a liberal agenda.

I figure we'll get around to offending everyone eventually. :bolian:

^ And most of the authors have been accused of all of them at one time or another (some at the same time, by different readers of the same book).

Talk about trying to please everybody....

And if you have, whats the big deal with having a Gay, Liberal or Feminist Agenda, ok, these books are written now and there are a lot of back wards thinking people still, but they are based in the future, a future where what makes us different should be embraced and thats ultimately what I thought you were doing.

^ People usually call another viewpoint an "agenda" when they take issue with it.

As Tommy Lee Jones (agent K??) said in Men in Black "people are stupid"

One thing I have noticed of late is an apparent increase in sexual activities in the books which I put down to you writers writing too much and not actually getting any :rommie::rommie:
