Design the Next Enterprise

Apparently anyone can submit a design.

The winner will probably be the one with the design that meshes most with STO's... art direction. Urgh.

Yes, ANYBODY! Yeesh!:vulcan:

But to be fair, I have to say I admire, at least, the ideas behind some of the entries.

But wow, sure is a LOT of schlock with no effort or creativity whatsoever.

(And wow, there are a couple of diamonds in the mix, too.)

There! Just posted mine.

Chris Madden, #869. Search for "madden"

Wow, almost 1,000 entries so far?? Awesome!
Hope you guys will let me know what you think of mine.

Cheers,
-Moe!

Damn you, sir/ma'am, DAMN you! I just peed my pants looking at that striking, graceful, stunning beauty. And I'm at work right now. Pretty damned inconsiderate of you.

869, I voted for that one! LOVE IT! :techman:

Lets hope people stop posting Vesta's. If I see another one I'm going insane. (I mean this afternoon I checked, and Vesta was highest rated, closely followed up by another Vesta image... In my opinion the ship is fine on its own, it's just not a good starting point for an Enterprise. That and blatant violating of copyright ofcourse. (sort of)

(The concept of my own Enterprise F is ready btw, but I'm not participating, as I'm not in the U.S.) HA!

My apologies, I didn't plan for any unexpected urination. I'll send you the money for some new pants :)

Thanks, though! I wanted a cross between the Sovereign and refit Constitution. ...Funny story, I was so tired when I finished painting it that I wrote "Dedication Class" instead of "DECLARATION Class," like I was planning. D'oh!

...And I realized I can link straight to it, for those that wish to see it without searching:

One of several ways I evaluate a piece as being excellent or not, is if I look at it, and say to myself, "Aha! THAT ship is EXACTLY what I would have designed, if I had any marketable talent!"

I LOVE the long, thin, graceful nacelle struts. They look IMPOSSIBLY thin - which reinforces the sense that they employ advanced, exotic technology beyond our 21st century understanding.

She definitely pulls some elements of the NuPrise, and makes them work. (It could use some more lens flares...) Being a painting, without nerny detail down to the last rivet, it allows the viewer's imagination to fill in the details that have been suggested - thus, the viewers are drawn in and make an emotional connection and investment with the painting.

I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more lens flares.

I am struck by the wonderful use of light!

It's an extremely beautiful piece. Certainly one of the more polished submissions we've seen yet. The retro look, being as popular as it is right now after the release of the recent film, might hold you in better stead (from the perspective of the creativity category) than more traditional late 24th-century design aesthetics. It has enough of a "future" look to it to keep it apart from the host of totally anachronistic submissions I keep seeing, though the line is a bit thin. That'll either help you or hurt you, in the end.

Well, I am working on a submission, and going into way too much detail considering the image size limit. So, I thought I would post a closeup image of the warp nacelle. It's not complete, but is farther along than the rest of the ship. I would think showing just the nacelle here wouldn't disqualify my ship. ;) I don't know if my design is going to be elegant enough to win compared to some already posted, but I gotta try!

I like it... it looks like it could be from the era just before TNG. That's probably why I like it. :)

I haven't read the rules, but is there any chance you can post a higher res version here?

I agree! I'd love to attempt to build that thing in 3D, too! If you don't mind, of course...

Just a heads up folks....my design may show up under someone elses name. Do not be alarmed. I just really wanted a crack at it and a good friend who has the fortune of living in the states has offered to put it up for me.

Wish him (me) luck... ;)
