This thread has become about personal/poster integrity methinks. Most of these discussions get derailed that way. I do agree with your comment above. People expect the law to be there for them when it suits but may choose to subvert or ignore it at other times. Now whether someone should or should not report something is up to them. They are just the messenger.

If a person thinks it's a big enough issue to spread stories about other people doing illegal things, but they aren't reporting it to the proper authorities themselves, then I really have to wonder what the person's motive is and whether it's really true. And anyway, if all you've heard is a rumor, then you can't be "just the messenger" for relaying it.

I'm utterly disappointed with some of the sentiments in this thread. I can't even say anymore that I respect other people's opinions because that would be a lie.
Now back to your regular program.

There can be a whole lot less justice when they're arbitrary.

The main reason for exceptions is, yes, when either a law or its penalty is unjust. And while there is a lot of disagreement over what is just or unjust, a reasonable standard for a just law is that society reasonably wants to deter and/or punish (and punish to deter) a harmful act.

Sorry cooleddie but joking about this post that boasts of destroying people's lives is not doing it for me.
