Defiant vs Jem'Hadar Super Ship

Photon

Commodore
Commodore
Engage in a little FB play.

Sisko and crew vs the same Dominion Battleship that ended for Red Squad.

I think there is a very good chance the Defiant could have defeated it or at least disabled it.

From what we know the Valiant:
*didn't have ablative armour
*didn't carry quantum torps
*didn't have a cloack
*didn't have the Emissary

Thoughts?

The Valiant did carry quantum torpedoes and as for ablative armour I'm not sure.

Cloak sometimes works against the Dominion so even a cloaked strike has not guarantee of working. I tend to agree with Jake that Capt Sisko would not have attacked the ship alone.

My Jem'Hadar fighters and I would most likely have destroyed your Defiant like we destroyed that pathetic excuse called the Valiant!!! Even if Jadzia (not Ezri) and Miles O'Brien had been there, I doubt you would have stood half a chance!! Muhuhahahaha!!!!!

:p

I think Jake said it best when he said that his father wouldn't have tried it on his own. That ship was double the size of a Galaxy Class ship and three times as strong. The Defiant would survive for a while, but I think it'd be a similar result.

The Valiant hadn't been in for repairs (except those they can make on the go) since it left from spacedock. The ship has been behind enemy lines for months. It probly a miricle they survived as long as they did. A ship can take so much before it gets ripped apart.

^ Also true! And since they were cadets, and how much work did Nog, who had a knack for that stuff, do? Probably not a whole lot...

No matter who wins that's a matter that they definitely needed to put on-screen. It would have been awesome no matter what. They shoulda made it into a DS9 version of "Balance of Terror". I have no doubt that coulda been a masterpiece of a DS9 episode that was held in as high regard as ITPM, The Visitor etc.

^
Starship Down sucked really badly though, and was nothing at all like Balance of Terror.

That's a good idea. Super ship vs Super capt

If the Valiant could have flame it up then the Defiant could have sent her back to spacedock in bad shape.

No. Sisko would have retreated to get backup instead of risking the lives of his entire crew just to prove something. That's why Sisko is a Captain and those punks on the Valiant were cadets.

That Dominion Ship was supposed to be three times as powerful as a Galaxy Class starship!

I think it would have taken more than one "Defiant" (with a non-green cadet crew, please) to take out one of those ships- even tho it was experimental. It was a beast.

It was way too powerful for any one starship to handle. I think the Enterprise-E would have had problems with it.

Ditto. Sisko and crew might have been tempted to try the same thing, but he wouldn't have stared at it for three minutes waiting for it to right itself and start shooting again. He'd have cloaked and gotten the hell out of there right after seeing the plan didn't work. Same for any experienced captain and crew, really. This is why college seniors make bad captains.

LOL ^

Pffft, who needs years of training and experience with a tested and true crew when you can just take a ship as a cadet when your seniors die and go roaming around a war zone picking fights with people with more ships, bigger ships, and more firepower? LOL!!!!

Stupid stupid children...

Hey who is dumber. The cadets, or Starfleet for letting them train on a Defiant class ship near a war zone. Hmmmm. Though decision. I put my money on the idiots that allowed them near that ship. I don’t care if they are “the best of the best”.

JH 1st : "They're charging weapons.....preparing (snicker) to fire...(snicker)

Vorta: "Contain yourself first our I'll reduce you 2 steps in rank" "Load Polarion Torpedoes and fire at your discretion"

JH 1st: "Firing"

Vorta: "Now what is that human expression....shooting fish in...a barrel...yes that it..."

Umm, they were with a trained, adult crew, were they not? There is nothing wrong with letting the best of the best tag along with an experienced crew. Nog wasn't Red Squad, he still worked on the Defiant. I'm not entirely certain what Star Fleet was supposed to do about the fact that the children went off alone on the ship when the main officers died. In fact, do we even know where the ship was deployed officially? It was declared missing months before, it shouldn't take that long to get to the Super Ship- therefore, they must've intercepted some information about the Dominion ship and snuck off. If SF knew the ship was missing, they must've tried to get it back.

Real world example, you train your kids, you give them rules, etc. But there is a limit to how much you can physically prevent them from doing. You can't lock them in their rooms.

Photon- you rock! :lol::lol::lol:

Unrealistic. You don't let children near advanced technology. You don't even let most adults near advanced technology, until they've been trained as "junior rate apprentices"; as part of an existing organization that has many experienced old hands per "tyro"; who watch them very carefully as the tyros learn. The experienced hands watch. teach and observe, then act decisively to weed out the incompetents.

That is why that "Red Squad" concept was ludicrous as a story concept.

To be fair, the Valiant did have a trained senior staff of professionals who were guiding Red Squad, a ship full of potential ensigns.

...on the other hand, it *was* ridiculous that all of the senior staff conveniently died after one battle. How many times does that EVER happen?
