Defiance Season 2 Discussion

I agree, I think it likely he made it up to suck up some Amanda feelings.

Tommy is a whiny ass.

As to Rafe, WHY did he shoot his idiot godson? Didn't want him to suffer all the torture being arrested would bring?

Pretty sure it was more to save himself and the plans he has to help reclaim the city. The kid was clearly out of control and he couldn't trust him anymore.

I mean, Rafe isn't as bad as Datak, but he's still a gangster for the most part. Albeit one relying on his (former) wealth, power, and control of the mines rather than straight-up crime, but that's just a different side to the same coin.

The godson did seem in on the plans, he talked about how he was furthering what Rafe wanted. I assume he would have spilled everything. When did we see this godson before?

And yeah he is a gangster, he told Alak he would kill him if he kept doing his dad's bidding.

He was in the premiere (or maybe the second episode; my memory is shoddy). One of the two prisoners we saw the Bioman transporting. They "escaped" and one got killed by a monster while managed to survive.

Should have had more build up. Still it does show what's been an undercurrent with Rafe. He is a dangerous man. And I liked the wild west element that both Rafe and Nolan, badge or not, think everything is better handled outside of the system.

Here comes the unholy alliance between two once-powerful men kicked out of their homes -- Rafe and Datak.

It didn't make sense to me that Rafe shot Josef at the end, but now it does. At first, Rafe wanted to save his godson by sending him away. But Josef crossed the line one too many times by kidnapping Berlin. Josef was a loose cannon that Rafe needed to get rid of ... for good.

He shot 4 guys dead, and pissed on the mayor.

But kidnapping a pretty girl?

THE LINE! THE LINE!

I thought it was simply that the kid couldn't be trusted to do what he was ordered to do, and he certainly couldn't be trusted to keep his mouth shut about what Rafe had planned, and even if Rafe had nothing planned, they would torture him until he invented a conspiracy to which Rafe was at the center of.

Oh, and the public execution or the 80 years of imprisonment.

But really?

Was it just that it made him ineffective as a leader, or that it made him look like a limpdick to Nolan? Beyond massive sweeping seeds of revolution that until this happened which were possibly imaginary, he gave his word that the boy wouldn't be a problem any more, and after he was dead, he was not.

Rafe had his bags already packed when they showed up to evict him. He had a warning or he just knew what would happen?

Actually, I think it had more to do with the fact that after Josef was busted for the raid, Rafe was able to talk Nolan out of arresting him and giving him a chance to flee. But Josef instead went and caused more trouble, making Rafe look bad in the process. If we follow the comparison that Rafe is a gangster, than this was him executing his bad apple so he can still look like a man of his word.

Rafe mentioned the problems he had when he tried to protect Irisa and also Potinger had threatened to take more than just his mines away.

McCauley simply put 2 and 2 together and came up "pack your bags"

Ah, Defiance. You may be the only show that makes me care for "Leni Riefenstahl". :techman:
She is so far, except Dr Yewll, the best thing with the entire show.

She's hot because Tommy wants her.

This hotness is all about her imminent tragedy and possible death.

Berlin is a wall inbetween Tommy and Irisa.

"Mr Murphy! - TEAR DOWN THAT WALL!"

:)

Anyone else recall who the great Philosopher was who said “The extreme always seems to make an impression.”

;)

Maybe these people are just too young for me. Tommy looks like a teenager, though the name doesn't help. Nolan seems to treat him like he's an annoying eagle scout and not much else. No sexiness seems to be happening with Tommy, Irisa (she of the feral-cat cliche) or Berlin. Berlin would have been better without the wah wah backstory of dullness though. I'd rather she was just RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!! because she's into it. Instead we get "we need to be orderly so bad stuff doesn't happen" yawn.
