DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

So, having leafed through the majority of the DCNU books, these are the ones I actually care to go to the second issue with...

the GL books, the major Bat books, the Super books, JLA, JLI, Aquaman, Flash, WW

I've decided that I'll be continue the following:

-Action Comics
-Aquaman
-Batgirl
-Batman
-Batman, Inc (when it returns)
-Batman and Robin
-Batwoman
-Catwoman
-Justice League (at least until the origin arc is done)
-Justice League International
-Legion of Superheroes
-Legion of Superheroes: Secret Origin (when it starts next month although I don't think it's considered part of the main 52 group)
-Red Hood and the Outsiders
-Superboy
-Supergirl
-Teen Titans
-Stormwatch

More books than I thought. Some of these will eventually be cut down as we proceed through the first arcs.

Believe it or not, I'm gonna buy Legion Lost again. Because I am incapable of learning. Can I just give Pete Woods $3 and cut out the middle man?

Other than that:

Batwoman
Animal Man
Flash
Supergirl, but 3 only if 2 is significantly "more" than 1
Wonder Woman

Probably done with Action Comics. I'm not sure yet. Justice League, as much as I enjoyed it, is hard to justify. If Superman beats up Batman in a hilarious manner, let me know, please.

Yeah, I think that covers it.

Everything has been "re-started". Constaine is in Justice League: Dark and I, Vampire.

Awesome news regarding the Legion in Action Comics. I was hoping we would actually get to see them.

Curious if there will be a massive, minor or just return of the old Spoiler costume.
Strictly speaking, she should still be Batgirl in this story; it's the continuation of Batgirl #22, where Batman sends Batgirl to London on a mission for Batman, Inc. However, DC has said elsewhere that she's Spoiler in this story, so it's not the continuation of Batgirl #22 anymore. :)

If you're going to redesign Steph's Spoiler costume, I like Dean Trippe's remake from Project: Rooftop a few years ago, which is a little bit Robin, a little bit Spoiler. Mike Maihack's Steph-Robin costume (same link) is nice, too; I'd just color it purple/black to make it a Spoiler costume.

Not a bad combo redesign. If they went something that route I could see it working.

Last night I read my last few DC books for the week.

Swamp Thing #2 - Ok, so let me get this straight and see if I understood what I just read, Swamp Thing is now a mantle? A host to become Swamp Thing not too unlike passing down a GL ring? The Swamp Thing identified himself as a guy named Rodgers who was pilot in WWII and is trying to convince Holland to become A Swamp Thing? I didn't get the feeling based on what I read that he was going to go away if Holland became a Swamp Thing 'for real'. Also, am I to assume then that Holland has now NEVER been Swamp Thing? It was all some trippy mind job by the Parliament of Trees. In addition it does seem that with mentions of The Red a few times in the issue we are headed for an Animal Man crossover at some point should both titles continue for some time.

Huntress #1 - Nothing in the story to jump out as ground breaking. It was efficient and well paced. The art was really good. I may just wait for the TPB though. Got issue 1 to sample it. I don't think this story just screams, "So crucial and relevant to so much else you must follow monthly."

I'm guess the spoiler costume will be whatever it's easiest to re-colour in the old Bat-girl costume and cut off the ears? :)

I'm assuming DiDio and editorial "forced" Morrison to make the changes to Steph in the book as they did with Dick stepping down as Batman. I'm expecting Steph's redesigned Spoiler costume to be segmented like the rest of the costumes and perhaps to feature some kind of Bat logo design to it...

DC editorial can't force Morrison to do anything. His run on Batman is pretty emblematic of that.

Yes. It was established in the beginning of Alan Moore's run on the character that the original Swamp Thing was never Alec Holland, but a creature of the parliament of trees that had absorbed the memories of Alec Holland. What this issue did was a reversal, Alec Holland now gains the memories of the original Swamp Thing.
