Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 1

Which makes me wonder if the actors here and in Batman: The Brave and the Bold weren't mispronouncing his name. Maybe the character's creators John Broome and Irwin Hasen intended something more like "Pair De-Gat-on" than "Purr Deg-a-ton."

FWIW, at least some of them were saying "Pair" at least some of the time - like Ra's Al Ghul it didn't seem to have a single solitary pronunciation.

I suppose a French name "DeGaton" could be stressed on the first syllable, like "Delacroix" would be, say. If it's French, though, it's odd to pair it with a Scandinavian first name.

Have you seen American naming conventions? Maybe that's where Kaznia gets it, being a MegaCorp state.

All the Kasnians spoke with American/Canadian accents.

Kasnia was founded by Sydney Palmer.

So...

The Kasnian Conglomerate seems to be composed mostly of: Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Moldavia, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria.

Current Croatian Prime Minister is a Canadian.
According to Legends it seems that's just the beginning of Canadian expansion in southeast Europe.
All that friendly "Eh, buddy" thing is just a facade, they're out to conquer everyone!!!

I thought it was amusing how they pretty much said the world had been chopped up by megacorporations, yet every country around Kasnia is... a modern, real-world country.

Simple - Rip was superimposing Kasnia above a map that showed the geo-political landscape of 2016 that the Legends would therefore be able to understand its relative position.

Kasnia is probably just short for Kanadian* Sovereign Novus Imperium Australis***

(*) they spell everything** with a K in the future
(**) except conglomerate
(***) Latin also makes a comeback

Maybe shitty unincorporated countries are no mans lands with nothing to offer the world?

Turkey and Italy, have been around for a while.

I'm not sure why Kasnia didn't claim the Black Sea?

Maybe it's used as a neutral zone, which is easier to maintain than a minefield?

Fishing is something a technologically ruined society can still handle.

Stopping all the poor people outside Kasnia from earning a living/feeding the oceanside villages, would be a good way to keep the little people down, and too weak to be threatening.

You think Oil will still be a thing a 130 years up stream?

h2 is harvested from the ocean if cheap fusion replaces oil, and a land locked ocean like the black sea would be a great place that could be turned into an algae farm, if algae replaces oil.

Should I anticipate, hope, that Rip saves his wife&son at the conclusion of this season. In doing so the TimeLords will forgive(never have known due to time changes) Rip. That S2 will be about the team agreeing to stay together in order to purse some other cause. If not I don't know if I can spin my wheels episode after episode with nothing being resolved regarding the main thrust of Rip assembling this team.

Same for Flash. Will S3 be about someone other than a mega Speedster that Barry let get close to him be the main bad guy? S1 Reverse Flash/Wells S2 Garrick/Zoom

It aired here (Canada) Tuesday, that is why.

Guess CTV wanted something to fill the Flash's slot.

It was great to see Jonah Hex. To be honest, all I know about him comes that Justice League Unlimited 3 part time travel story

Watched it in Canada. Because I'm Canadian. Reminded me of the days when we'd get Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise 1-3 days before the major syndication or network guys did, allowing me to nerd out rather hard.

Anyway, this episode is the Legends cast doign a Western, but aside from a couple clues to the main plot was basically filler. Cheesy, groaning, filler with every Western cliche you can have on network TV.

Part of me wanted Old West Hawkgirl to turn up as part of the final fight with the assassins. I'm wondering if we'll get the bracelet and they'll melt it down to bullets, as they've shown that they can't take Savage in a hand-to-hand fight. As long as Hawkgirl presses the trigger, the result should be the same as her using the dagger.

Stein's horn-rimmed glasses should stick out in that period...especially if the rims and/or lenses are made of plastic.

Yeah, it was just all the stock Western tropes we've seen a million times. I know I shouldn't expect a realistic portrayal of the West in a DC-based universe, but still, it's just so far removed from reality. (I've read that Western frontier towns actually had extremely strict gun control, and showdowns in the middle of the street are an invention of the movies.) And Johnathon Shaech was rather dull as Jonah Hex. I wish they'd gone with Adam Baldwin, who voiced Hex in Justice League Unlimited.

Also, the rainy Vancouver conditions didn't fit very well with the attempt to create a classic Western town.

And of course, when the sick kid's mother said he was known as Bertie, it only took me about a minute before I said, "Oh, no, he's Herbert George Wells." So add a time-travel cliche to the Western cliches.

Yeah, the H G Wells reveal bugged me. It a huge stretch of real history to believe Wells ever visited North America as a child! If it was a story taking place in England at the same time it would at least had some plausibility for them to met Wells at that age.
