DC Teases Flashpoint

I had automatic payments going to my comic shop from my bank account and then they'd mail me everything I wanted.

X number of dollars a month meant x number of comics a month.

Some months there was a deficit of good reads.

Surplus or stuffer?

Some months it was almost 90 percent stuffer waiting for something interesting to be produced

Again, you asked I answered.

 Yeah... I know... I read that in your post... I'm not sure what you're saying now...

I personally don't subscribe to that argument. It's something that continues to be brought up in these threads at the odd time and it will be an endless one in my opinion. I've always been of the opinion that if you don't like the tie-ins don't buy them. Simple as that.

Right. We agree. I thought that was clear in my last post.

I know it's looked down upon here but i haven't bought comics in years myself except in trade.

No judgement here. I collect some singles, but I'd be happy for the industry to move into a trade only model, provided it was sustainable. I especially enjoy oversized hardcover editions.

Come September, Marvel and DC are going digital with their monthlies.

(You know this.)

Will this be cheaper than buying trades?

Marvel is offering $2.99 per new comic on Thursday, or a $1.99 a month later or $60.00 bucks a year for unlimited reading of their entire catalouge new and old books.

60 bucks US a year.

Fu... uck.

At 2.99 a title, 60 bucks is twenty titles. I spent more than that in a month. That is quite a steal if you can stand to read comics online.

And it also depends on size and format.

I'm assuming that they're going to do weird shit to the books which will make the titles userunfriendly and stacked with advertising that might even JUMP out at you, which will send some people screaming back to the perfectly usable fee stuff already online.

Here's something I've done once or twice.

If you unrar a cbr file, so that it's just a folder full of numbered jpgs, no different than that folio of your family last Thanksgiving playing football and ...But then you can just read your comic on your big screen tv through your dvd player.

Comic book pages 6 feet tall if you've invested in one of those sorts of TVs.

But the ultimate drawback to the digital experience is that I used to like reading comics in the bathtub, and that's just not possible anymore.

Knighht of Vengeance #3 cover has been revealed. Spoilers for KoV 2

It matters to the people who are buying the books..."The Batman Knight of Vengeance" book (which is probably the only thing I will get when it's collected) is excellent and as you say doesn't really tie-in to the main Flashpoint book. It is an excellent character study into this version of Thomas Wayne and takes a gritty, violent look into a very different Gotham City. Actually this version of Thomas reminds me of a Rupert Thorne type character.
Thomas Wayne actually kills people, right? It would've been great if Azzarello had written Flashpoint Gotham as a utopia.

That would have been interesting. The rest of the world has gone to hell, but Gotham is a paradise. Not sure Azzarello does "paradise", though.

Just imagine: Their near murder inspires the Waynes to devote their time and money to making Gotham City a better place to live. Bruce is trained from childhood to be the best possible man he can be. (Think Doc Savage). Thomas Wayne is now mayor of the city. Bruce the Police Commisioner. He's married and has a son. Jason and Dick are trusted associates. Tim is just a regular kid. Gordon is Chief of Detectives. Barbara leads a quiet life as a librarian. Selina runs an Animal rescue. Everything is Happy Happy Joy Joy. How can Barry sell the Waynes on returning things to "Normal"?

^ That would be a pretty interesting. Barry would have no choice but to leave the Wayne's to themselves and I would guess if that was case that there would be no Batman part of the story. Who would Bruce have a so with though Nerys in your version? Selina?

Yes,I was thinking Selina. There would be no Batman. But if we follow the "Doc Savage" analogy Bruce might have been a crimefighter in that mold before becoming Police Commisioner. I imagine like Doc he would have assistants, possibly drawn from Batman based heroes and villains in the "real world": brilliant lawyer Harvey Dent, Cryogenics expert Victor Fries, Botanist Pamela Isly, skilled Acrobat Dick Grayson and former SAS operative Alfred Pennyworth.

"Well, where I come from, two hundred million Europeans aren't dead."

Good answer. That would set up a moral conflict for the Waynes. Especially if the Waynes of this reality are as Gothamcentric as Batman has been in the "real world". ( yeah he gone International as of late but sometimes Gotham is his whole world) Are the lives of all those people worth the lives of his parents and the peace and stability of Gotham City?

Barry would still have to work to convince Bruce or Thomas to do something to justify changing "their world". Knowing how Bruce's life is in the real world compared to this utopian fantasy, he'd have to work damned hard to convince them to break that. "Oh yeah also where I come from you have no family, your parents were murdered when you were ten years old. You are sometimes an ass hole, and you keep on pushing away the people you love and that love you. Yeah come help me restore that please."

The Bruce Wayne of the reality described would be more likely to stop Allen than help him. Which could make a very interesting story.
