DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

The DCEU is quite literally the ArrowVerse now.

According to Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Arrow multiverse implicitly includes every live-action DC universe, as well as the comics universe according to the Arrowverse Crisis tie-in comic. And Titans' "Dude, Where's My Gar?" implied that the animated ones are included too.

Why does every superman project need to be either young Superman or married with kids Superman nowadays? That trailer looks very much like its trying to be a hip, "modern" Superman. Lois is giving me very painful early Smallville Chloe vibes, but if Chloe been a 20ish year old writing her weird stories at a real newspaper and not the school one. This is definitely a skip for me, and I'll never understand how it didn't get written off when so many interesting projects did.

But when there is a winner, it's consistently the Flash, regardless of which Flash it is. Although the first time it happened, in a classic Denny O'Neil story, both Superman and the Flash were weakened by bad guys and had to crawl slowly the last few feet to the finish line, so Superman fans could reassure themselves that Superman could've won at full strength. And there's one where it's left ambiguous that Superman might've thrown the race (for noble reasons, of course). But that very story also pointed out that Superman wasn't trained as a runner, so the Flash had the advantage.

I like the most recent take on this, in King and Kubert's "Up in the Sky": The Flash is faster but Superman still wins (barely) because Superman is all about the human spirit overcoming impossible odds.

Looks fun, although Superman having Boimler's voice is going to take some getting used to.

I like the idea of an Asian-American Lois Lane. "Lane" could easily be an Anglicization of a family name like Lei, Lian, Lenh, or Leng, though of course there are a lot of Asian-Americans with Western surnames. And it seems that casting Jimmy Olsen as Black is becoming a recurring thing -- this is the third instance I'm aware of, after Supergirl and the animated Battle of the Super Sons movie.

Uh, how is the Flash not about that? Even aside from the fact that Superman isn't actually human.

Probably like Days of Future Past where they reveal the new timeline they will be using from now on. Like what the New 52 was after Flashpoint.

Well...it could go that way....or perhaps not.... :D

The surprise ending is the entire DCEU is revealed to be a child playing with his action figures

I've believed some superhero films and TV series were the equivalent of that for some time.

There be spoilers beyond this point......

Although, we kinda already knew. But some people might not.

The only thing this movie has going for it is the return of Faora, and she’s probably going to be underused.

Looks like "The Greatest Superhero Movie Of All Time" might have just been a touch of hyperbole.

Shocked. Shocked I tell you. Never before have people left special advance screenings for films fueled by the overall atmosphere carefully crafted to make the viewers feel like they're participating in a special, exclusive event and thus putting them in a better mood and making them feel possessive of the film, causing them to have an overwhelmingly positive response disconnected from the actual quality of the product.

The Flash is about that to the extent that all superhero stories are about that, I guess. But Superman’s especially about that. Even if he isn’t literally human.

It could just be that after all the disappointment that DC's given people, even mediocrity will look like gold.

Most of the positive reviews are focusing more on the nostalgia and fanservice over actual quality, which is probably what the filmmakers were hoping would happen thanks to No Way Home opening the floodgates to gutless fanservice replacing quality.

 No Way Home is easily the best Spider-Man film since Spider-Man 2, its far from "gutless fanservice". I'm tired about people that whine about fanservice, fanservice is great, it should be readily embraced literally whenever possible. The fact that No Way Home uses it basically perfectly, while also being the only good MCU Spider-Man film is just even more impressive.

As for The Flash, its a very low bar to be one of the few good DCEU related films, but a tolerable story can easily be made a classic with stuff like Keaton's Batman.

I just saw the new Shazam movie this weekend--I thought it was a huge improvement over the first with some great character moments and lots of humor. It really showed that DC can make a good film without being dark and gloomy. It was up there with Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey for me.

It was fairly good, but I just don't like Zachary Levi in the lead, and the "obnoxious dumb kid" act he employs as Shazam bears no resemblance to Asher Angel's performance as Billy Batson, who's supposed to be the same person.

I also would've liked it better if the ending
had involved redeeming the villain and reuniting the sisters, rather than killing two of the three. Feature films are too addicted to "kill the bad guy" endings, and it felt hollow here. These movies are supposed to be about family, so it would've been more heroic and a better thematic fit if Shazam had found a way to use that to connect with the villain and convince her to stand down and reconcile with her sisters.
