DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

To me though, hiring Keaton (and I don't object to him being in a one off alternate universe movie) reeks of the same style of decision making that wrecked BVS and Justice League. I take this back if the casting was the intent of the people actually making the movie, but it seems like a cash grab because Keaton is a Box Office Draw again.

If the intent is to expand on the basic concept of Crisis re: multiverse, as seen on CW (thematically, not specifically tied to that story), then Keaton’s appearance makes sense. Of course, there’s a box office draw element (always a consideration), but there is no reason to believe that that is all there is to it.

Regardless of the specific story, the setup of the multiverse makes all kinds of sense for DCEU (no need to rehash all the details why), especially as a way to develop a looser “shared universe” than the MCU (not a reflection of which approach is “better” but an observation about different approaches).

In any case, I enjoyed both Keaton and Affleck as Batman, so I’m looking forward to seeing them again in the role. I’m just hoping the film doesn’t lose sight of its main character in all the hubbub.

I think it’s interesting how many multiverse stories seem to be going at once. Into The Spider-verse probably kicked it off, now we’ve got both DC and the MCU going down that route, with The Flash, Loki, Doctor Strange and, apparently, Spider-man all doing likewise.

Now we just need the Kelvinverse Star Trek to crossover with the prime universe!

It's hard to know if Ben will stay or not. Does he want to continue in the role and in what capacity? A HBO Max series? Would bridges need to be mended with Zack Snyder and WB before that could happen? Ben is obviously a popular Batman. I'm sure tey could do something with him. Keaton I imagine is sticking around and will be in a Batman Beyond movie or Batgirl movie. The smart money is more Batman.

The Arrowverse started doing multiverse stories before Spider-Verse. Although the first time it explicitly acknowledged a previous fictional continuity as a parallel universe, with the 1990 Flash in Elseworlds, was around the same time that ITSV came out.

I have been wondering if we might see Robert Wuhl again as Alexander Knox? Not necessarily because he appeared in CRISIS on the CW either. He is one of the small number of characters in Keaton’s Batman movies in which the character is still alive and so is the actor. It’s a very short list. He is also a lot cheaper than any of the actress who played Bruce’s love interests. Not a huge role but a reminder of that being a specific world with its own characters.

I wasn't.
She's Wasp now, and with the movie currently filming, timing wouldn't even allow for it.
That was my point. Even if she was available there are so many characters in this movie already would she even agree to do a small walk on cameo? Or would it be satisfying to us fans? No.

Alexander Knox would be a fitting cameo to show a familiar face on “Earth 89”. Robert Wuhl already did it for Crisis. So it’s plausible

In terms of the original Flashpoint story, IIRC it was set up as a summer event and created as a story independent of the creation of the New 52. The New 52 rearranging of the multiverse is an "add on" to the main Flashpoint story and doesn't really have to do with Flashpoint itself. The multiverse only gets rebooted after Flashpoint has been resolved and Barry is returning to his own Earth.

Considering how long this movie has been in development and the number of writers and directors who came and left we have little knowledge of what it is going to be. I doubt it will be released under the title Flashpoint. Nor have much resemblance to that comic story.

I hope not. I've seen Flashpoint adapted for the screen twice now, in the animated movie and on The Flash, and I haven't liked it much either time. So I hope the feature film has as little in common with it as possible.

It's so funny to me... back in the day, people would tell me they didn't/couldn't read comics because of "all that history" or "too much to keep track of."

To go back to replacing Affleck as Batman, if they did go that route and went with a multiversal Batman, then Robert Pattinson would seem a lot more likely to me, since he's younger and they could get a lot more movies out of him. Or they could really blow Arrowverse fans, and bring over Warren Christie and use that as the explanation for what happened to that universe's Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I assumed that this film would be used to set up R-Bats as Batfleck’s replacement but apparently The Batman is standalone and not going to overlap with the other Dc films

Or the film is establishing its own multiverse to the extent that one would only see characters (or references) introduced in the films, such as the DCEU's own Supergirl.

Oh, I think Miller has earned his role to the point where the story will center on his growth as a person (in and out of costume), and won't be a cameo-fest with the Flash shoved into the background of his own film.

Yikes.

I do not see that happening.
