DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Oh. That doesn't sound so bad, compared to a lot of the horror stories we hear about Hollywood power players these days. It sounds like he was just a little thoughtless, trashing Snyder's cut of the film without considering the feelings of the people around him who'd worked on that version of the film.

I agree, and I think Fisher should grow up.

Again you misread me. I'm saying they knew it would get too much backlash if they gave him the award for that role. So they agreed to hold off and randomly award his next big performance. Which turned out to be his last.

I mean, why else would they award him when the role was nothing but a bunch of serial killer cliches?

No one is misreading you at all. Others have already addressed the fact-free idiocy of your opinions, but the crux of your entire rant is as described yesterday: your homophobia and hatred of DC movies has you still dreaming up the lie about the Academy wanting to give Ledger the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain. Again, the only reason you are saying this is your accusation that the Academy has a gay agenda it wanted to push by doing exactly what you're saying. Despite you dedicating page after page, thread after thread in an attempt to rewrite history, it will not rob Ledger of his legitimately awarded performance as that DC character, the Joker--again, something the MCU could not, and never will match.

So... I guess the "to infinity" of the thread title means "endless repeats of whatever DC-related argument any given poster feels like kicking up, over and over, until the sweet and gentle embrace of death itself"? :p

To be fair, said cut might have been awful. Like, Man of Steel-level bad. Oh, wait, there I go again! To infini-

To be fair, said cut might have been awful.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't. But I can understand how the people who worked hard on it might feel slighted to have a colleague tell them to their faces that the fruit of their labors was rotten. There's a time and a place.

All I can think is, what if they had called me in (Ha!) to "fix" BvS? I would have torn that damn thing apart with my teeth with no regard for anyone's feelings. And just like Whedon on JL, I'd have probably made a real botch-job of it. ;)

No one is misreading you at all.

Except you.

Others have already addressed the fact-free idiocy of your opinions,

Nah, you're just continuing to go ballistic anytime anyone points out the flaws in Nolan's works. And boy are they flawed.

the lie about the Academy wanting to give Ledger the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain.

It's no lie, they did.

Again, the only reason you are saying this is your accusation that the Academy has a gay agenda it wanted to push by doing exactly what you're saying.

Actually, it's because of the rampant homophobia that was around at the time (which is also what made Brokeback so controversial at the time) that made them realize they couldn't award it to him.

it will not rob Ledger of his legitimately awarded performance as that DC character, the Joker--again, something the MCU could not, and never will match.

The only legitimacy to the performance was that he died after doing it, which is why the Academy gave him the consolation award. The MCU hasn't had any dead Academy Darlings yet, and I pray they won't stoop as low as WB and Nolan did.

Yes, how dare they stoop so low as to have an actor die by accident while working on a movie for them...? The nerve of some people...?

What bullshit.

Ledger lost to Philip Seymour Hoffman. Of course the awards are subjective but Hoffman deserved the award as he had been overlooked for great performances before--and he was a great actor.

Okay, I have to at least try:

Please, please, please, move this newly-flamed "oh, the superhero movies I'm a fan of are the best thing to happen to humanity since the invention of erect posture, while the superhero movies you're a fan of are the worst thing since the Gutians invaded the Akkadian Empire" bickering over to more appropriate thread and leave this one for actual discussion of the DC movies.

Probably won't help, but at least I get the feeling I did something.

Anyhow, "Zatanna". Would like to see Paul Dini involved with this one.

I am totally up for Zatanna on the big screen. I don't know for sure but she has got to be DC's biggest legacy character (as in offspring/someone who takes up the mantel). She holds a special place in my heart as the first Justice Leaguer to join the team after I started reading that book.

Now let's wait for a particular poster to start complaining how the New 52 absolutely destroyed her as a character.

I keep going back to Keaton possibly coming back to Batman...
And I think we need to prepare ourselves to him only coming back as Bruce Wayne. Which is awesome and I'm all for it, absolutely. I just don't see Keaton coming back into the fold as the Caped Crusader, full costume and fight scenes and what not.

In my opinion four months before release IS the time and place to not beat around the bush and tell it like it is, there's no real time to be diplomatic at that point. The movie as delivered by Snyder sucked and Whedon was brought in to fix it, obviously not everyone agreed but the studio hated it or Whedon wouldn't have been allowed to do extensive reshoots and change the entire movie.
Maybe Whedon could have handled it better but with WB not moving the release date, Gadot being pregnant, Cavill being moustached and Affleck being a mess because of his personal situation I can see why Whedon would be stressed out and maybe vent a little bit too much about how much was wrong with Snyder's version.

And Ray Fisher seems like a nice guy but he had zero experience when he was cast as Cyborg and apparently Snyder gave him a place at the table and listened to his ideas, that's nice but it's also not normal for a noob playing second banana to be listened too extensively so maybe what he perceived as abuse was just Whedon being a director who didn't give him the time of the day because there literally wasn't any time to waste.

Sure, but the professional way to do that is not to harp on how much their earlier work sucked, it's to psych them up to do better work going forward.

See, there you go. You're saying the same thing I'm saying -- that there are two sides. I understand Whedon's attitudes, and I expect he's probably justified in his opinion of the Snyder cut, but I also understand why his colleagues could've been hurt by how he handled it.

The rumor news I'm reading today is that Batman Beyond is in active development with him and he wants Tim Burton on the film in some capacity. Totally mind bending, a Burton verse Batman Beyond.
Hell yeah from me.

I would too, but I'm hoping they aren't trying to play catch up with Dr Strange on this one and just want to make a Zatanna movie for the sake of it.

Thing is, Zatanna grew up with magic around her. She didn't have to be introduced to it as an adult. She also doesn't have the weight of being the primary sorceress in the DCU, there's Dr Fate, the wizard Shazam, even Madame Xanadu is Zatanna's senior. She's part of a community of magic users, and as such not as isolated as Dr. Strange.
It also opens up the potential to speak to a younger audience. If this is an origin film, Z's childhood should play a big part, and it's easy to see this trying to be more Harry Potter than Dr. Strange.

Burton back on Batman would be great. He's always had the best cinematic vision for the character and his world.

I'm definitely intrigued by the idea of a Zatanna movie. According to Wikipedia they are working on both a JLDark film and TV series, I wonder if this will be connected to them at all?

That's pretty much what I've been expecting since the announcement, for him to be behind the scenes plain clothes mentor figure, rather than an active, costumed Superhero.

Another thought on Zatanna and how her movie would be different to Dr. Strange: Z is a stage magician. That's what she does for a living, that's where she gets her outfit from, that's the kind of visual tradition of the character. And if Paul Dini were involved in the movie, aside from her being one of his favorite characters, his wife is a stage magician, so he has a lot of insight he could work into the movie. And he totally had to put his wife in it, too. Also, the movie would totally need a Penn & Teller cameo.

Yeah, the whole approach to magic with Z and Doctor Strange seems to be very different, so I don't think there would be to much overlap in what their movies dealt with.
